Traveling Outside the US As Asylee applicant ,Asylee,LPR through Asylum

My spouse's RTD has been approved in 12 months.

My spouse;
-received asylum status 1/3/24
-applied RTD through asylum status 5/1/24
-applied GC 4/1/24
-received GC 1/4/25 (surprise!)
-received RTD 5/29/25

but my spouse was asylee at the time of applying RTD. but received GC before receiving RTD.

Any issues? I mean is RTD only dependent on asylee status or GC status? or it doesn't matter?

After 1 year, is my spouse going to apply for Re-entry? or something else?
Nice and thanks for sharing! Did your spouse send medicals along with I-485 or separately? Also what is you spouse's COP? Or at least the region if you don't want to share the country?

No issues, as a Green Card holder via asylum, we should be using RTD + GC (if you have it) until we become US citizens.

The general consensus on the board here is that you apply for next RTD as soon as you get one.
So for example, your spouse should file for the next one right away, since he/she received it yesterday he/she should file for a new one right now. By the time this one expires, he/she will need to wait just 2 months (since it takes 14 months today) to get the new one.

I just want to reiterate that I am not an attorney so don't take my word for it, I can't give legal advice.

No issue. As she got her GC through asylum, she can always apply for either an RTD or RP (Re-Entry Permit) until she becomes a citizen.

Technically, you need to wait for a new one for 5-8 months (since today it takes 14 months), because many countries accept documents that have at least 6 months left before expiration. For some European countries, it is 3 months

Hi People my husband and I Just returned from Panama ( no Visa needed it) Just RTD no GC yet, no questions asked besides the reason for traveling, I went to second inspection, just five minutes.

GO TRAVEL WITH YOUR RTD
Did you fly from a U.S. airport to Panama? Is there any issue with checking in?

Airport personnels usually don't recognize RTD as they don't see it that often but they will ultimately allow you to fly after a few minutes of checking. The problem with RTD is that it cannot be scanned by the kiosk and you have to talk to the agent.

What i dont understand is and dont believe is how USCIS issues over 600k travel docs a year and people say agents dont recognise it.. are they living on another planet? if i use the law of propabilities and if an agent has been working at least 1 year , they must have at least encountered it 10x on average. Or are RTD users using airlines that started operations in 2025?:D

The airline staff said they had never seen the Refugee Travel Document before . They didn’t recognize it and made me wait about 25 minutes until a supervisor reviewed it and approved my boarding
Thank you! Did you show them anything else besides the RTD? Such as a printed Panama visa free policy sheet?

Thanks for sharing. Does your nationality allow visa free access to Panama?

Yes, my spouse took the risk and sent I-485 before 1 year of granted asylum with no medicals. but as far as I know, the Trump administration makes you send the medial with I-485.

My spouse will send the new application of RTD now. I hope it takes shorter than a year. Yes, the clock shows 14 months but my spouse received it early.

Has anybody traveled within Europe (by plane), with only their RTD and no shengen visa? P.D after being admitted in let's say Germany or The Netherlands which accept RTD visa free travel.
