no worries ..its seldom gets lost in the mail .it might take some more time because they need to make few of them for whole of your familiy+ it was holiday week before thanxgiving + its end of the year etc ..give them another 3-4 weeks time before you got to USCIS (you can make an ifo pass on line application so you can get interview date in the local USCIS office )..its free and if by that time you don't receive your GC they will be able to help you ( they will speed up card issuance and /or cancell lost GC)
....I also arrived about the same time as you did but 8 years ago ..I waited about 4 weeks maybe 5 for my GC ...

I agree with what PRAHA said. Sometimes it does take a little longer, but there was the holiday break to consider, so that might have slowed things down. I got all mine in 2 weeks, but that was a couple of years ago, so not sure how much has changed in processing times.

If you still havent gotten in say by January, then there should be contact information in the welcome back you get a few days after your first entry that basically recognizes your entry into the country. You can start there.

Hello my friend thanks for your respond, but they didn't give me any welcome letter in OHARE Airport, is that normal? they just gave me back my passport and toke the yellow envelope and make me sign and toke my fingerprints, and they told me you will receive your green card by mail. is there any additional thing that I missed?

No, that's it. Just be patient, as you deal with USCIS over the coming years you will learn of all the many ways that delays can happen through continued first hand experience.

Hi Firo1234, concerning ur case, dont be alarmed at the time that has elapsed without getting the card. In my case it was fast,it took only 2 weeks to get it. In the welcoming letter that is issued at the port of entry they mention that it may take roughly 60 days for one to get his/her card. with this i may advise u the way others have done that u be patient coz it may be still under processing. Meanwhile u can use the stamp in ur passport for anything u would wish to do since it can act as ur temporary green card till u get ur actual card. I hope I've tried my best to help.

I would start calling right away. What if your GC was delivered at the wrong address and someone is now using your identity. So far I have heard that most people had their GC within 2 or 3 weeks...

Better safe than sorry, in todays world you don't know who to trust...in some case the people you think you can trust can be proven not to trust....

I think I will listen to you benteblee because I will start Job next week and I need to get my green card because I am moving to another state to start my job so to be safe better than sorry, really guys thanks

They don't give Welcome letter at POE, it will be mail to your address, we got ours on Monday. On it you will see a tracking number with it you can call to confirm the status of your Green card.

Getting the Welcome letter shows that your Green card is undergoing processing and withing 2-3 weeks of recieving the letter your Green card would have arrived by post.

Hi all,

I came to US on 13th Nov. I receivedthe welcome letters , but not yet received the SSN. I requested it with my Visa (DS-230 part II , question 33a, 33b).

My POE is JFK and stsy in NY. Does anyone knows the time taken to issue the SSN in NY. But my case is handled by the Texas processing center (as per the welcome letters)

madu,

When did you receive your welcome letter and as per your SSN, have you gone to Social security administration office in your area to apply for your number? if so you are on the right track, i also came in on the 13th of November.

There are ways to check the status of your green card and you can have access to some centres provided by the authorities and these centres can be very helpful to you; you can get the information about the status of your green card. The phone numbers of these centres are given below along with the states they are located in. The centres are following: 1) Texas Service Center 214-381-1423 2) Vermont Service Centre 802-527-4913 3) Nebraska Service Centre 402-323-7830 and 4) California Service Centre 949-831-8427 .When you dial on the above mentioned numbers you will be directly connected to an electronic machine which will ask for some information from you. When you provide the machine all the information that it asked for, the machine will provide you with the status of your green card and also if something else is required by you.

hello guys my cousin called me and told me that I received big envelope and he told me thats maybe my green card, any way thanks all for your response for me I think that is the welcome letter, any way I will see my cousin tomorrow and let you know guys if it's my green card or the welcome letter, and madu12 by the way I recived my SSN in 10 days after I enter the US, I show them just the visa in my passport and then in 10 days they send it to me, any way I will let you know guys the updates :)

I didn't receive my SSN so far. Only th welcome letter I received. And my green card is being poducing. Its ok.

So I went to the SSA office and applied for a ew one on 13th December

Over here they stated that no SSN will be automatically issued and every one has to come into the office in person or has to sent in all originals which hardly any sane person will do.
