Can someone who won/ beneficiary of an immigrant visa issued as a mr/mrs who recently graduated from med sch and became a doctor after visa issuance

1. start using the new title in US having in mind that all documents doesnt show Dr including international paspt.

2. if yes is there any offial thing to do at the POE or when applying for SSN or drivers license. this is my situation.....am jetting out with my family in few weeks.

You can call your self Dr. in the USA if the USA recognize your degree. If your degree isn't recognized than your title over here is not allowed to be used for official things.

For example a Real Estate license in one State in the USA is not even recognized in all other States. You can be medical physician in your country but not able to practice here and you might have to get licensed here....that count for a lot of professions, not all though.

You have to check with the State Law you are planning to move to.

I received my SSN on 20th December. Although I requested through it with DS-230 Part II , it didn't work. I waited for 1 month and went to a SSA office and applied.

Sir the U.S unlike most contries does not recognize many foreign degrees and mostly medical degrees. So when you get here you gonna have to work hard for what you want, its not given to no one, and by that i mean, you will take some medical exams which takes anywhere from 1 to 2 or 3 years to complete, depending on how well and fast you can get ready for it. Then if you pass you will start appying for residency at hospital which could also take months or years to get accepted, then you will do residency for 3 years minimum after which you will sit for the medical board, if you pass then you get licensed and after then can you call yourself a (MD) like we Americans call them. And besides there is no way the can have your name on an international passport as doctor, thats kinda strange. Welcome to America by the way.

hello guys my cousin called me and told me that I received big envelope and he told me thats maybe my green card, any way thanks all for your response for me I think that is the welcome letter, any way I will see my cousin tomorrow and let you know guys if it's my green card or the welcome letter, and madu12 by the way I recived my SSN in 10 days after I enter the US, I show them just the visa in my passport and then in 10 days they send it to me, any way I will let you know guys the updates :)

you gonna be spilling your mothers milk before you become a doctor here ..it took my friend 8 years to finaly geta good possition in hospital in NY and he was in the top 5 in his class back in my country ..whas it worth ??..he is the only one who knows that answer..from my perspective I think he wasted a lot of time and hardship here for success and put his family through a lot ...in the meantime his colegues back home advanced at faster pace then he did ..and got recognized professionaly much more ..financial effect would be on his side but he is already in his 40s so its a mote point..consideringthat his friends already have ''life'' back in the native countries ..

Good points bro, i tell most medical students from overseas you gotta try something different, everyone is trying to get over to the states and think "whoa am gonna be a doctor and make lots of money," not knowing how many years its gonna take them to qualify as (MD)s in America. I have an Indian doctor that works as CNA at the hospital where i did rotation and he 's being applying for a residence spot for over 6 years and no hospital wants him yet, and he is kinda fed up, but such is life, it takes time to be someone in the U.S.A
