When does one get a chance to give the petition. Is it typically after the meeting. Is it one on one with the congressperson or is it with the assistant that you give the petition. Any comments would prepare me as well.
Hi, tr22,
You may not have a chance to hand the petition directly to Congressperson at the town hall meeting.

As I wrote to CS485 above in this thread, my recommendation steps are:

1) Visit the office as soon as possible with the following documents.
- your cover letter with your signature, name, and residential address (1 page)
(Please mention about "ImmigrationPortal.Com".)
- our petition (8 pages)
- the list of signature if possible
(It is more than 150 pages, but it must be impressive if you can bring it.)
One of staffs would remember you.

2) Then, attend the town hall meeting.
You had better bring the same documents to make it impressed.
The staff should remember you, so you can talk with her before the meeting.
You may ask her to introduce you to Congressman.

3) Ask a question during the QA session,
and try to talk directly to Congressman after the meeting.
Usually, Congressman will stay there for a while to talk with constituents.

Good luck,
-kashmir

I need to know who will administer the projects folks.
Rajiv, I would vote for karma_yoga, or/and kashmir, both of them have been the people with maximum enthusiasm and dedication. Which are both qualities the project manager MUST have. The rest of us just play a supporting role, so it is befitting that they run the project. If both cannot be administrators, than the one with the later RD should get the job (if he is willing to accept it), since he will be around longer!

I also recommend karma_yoga as an administrator.

However, if we can have only one administrator among the whole forum(s),
Edison at VSC forum has already contacted to Rajiv.

I will add Kashmir if he wants.

I second that thought. Kashmir will be a great asset on project management software.

Kashmir, would you like to volunteer also?

That is a great idea! Kashmir needs to be one of the project managers since he has done such a slap up job so far with Project Ocean.

Having 3 administrators will allow for more personal intervention and participation in various projects. We have atleast 4-5 on going projects, if each administrator deals with 1-2 projects, it will be given that much more attention.

Yes, I would. > operations

Also, thanks for your nominating me. > karma_yoga and 140_take_4ever

Frankly speaking, I am not a right person for project management.
Actually, as you know, my activities have not been organized at all.
However I strongly feel this kind of skill would be required to achieve our goal,
so it is my challenge.

I have Given Kasmir, Chief rights
and Kashmir_Admin Admintrative rights. E-mail me for your passwords please. You folks will have to decide as Admins, who you would like to include in you projects and give them user ID etc.

This is a fill-gap arrangement. Ultimately, we will have a much more streamlined system.

Faxed cover letter and petition to -

House Immigration sub committee

Majority(rep) committee and Minority (dem) committee.

Status

1. Class action: We have finished the first review of pertinent case law. Not VERY helpful but, as I had earlier thought, a CA will at least wake people up. I will post a draft memo from one of my colleagues.

2. I have signed the papers for incorporation and subsequent tax exempt status for immigrationportal.org.

Hi, CS485,
Can you follow Town Hall Meeting specific thread ?

Kashmir/Edison/Karma Yoga,

Your efforts are commendable. I 'ld like to contribute my time to this effort. I live in 40th District CA(Fullerton CA). ED Royce is the congressman. I faxed the backlog petitions to CA senetors and the local congressman. Just now I saw congressman's calendar for the town hall meeting(Dec 5th).

how do i reply to congressman

Hi

I wrote to Richard Gephart a couple of weeks ago, and I got response in mail. They actually contacted BCIS, but the reply from BCIS is nothing useful, and almost misleading. Anyway here is part of the letter I got:

"As you know, there is a huge backlog of all types of petitions pending. The NSC advises that they are currently adjuciating cases like this that were received prior to August 24,2001. In fairness to all applicants, they will not process these cases out of turn...I will be happy to make an inquiry on it's status if you provide me with your receipt number. However, I have absolutely no say in the decision-making process of an individual case nor can I get BCIS to expedite it's adjudication..."

It's disappointing but at least the congressman contaced the BCIS, which hopefully have pressure on them.

My question is, can anyone suggest how I should reply to congressman? Obviuosly the point is that employment based I-485 is not processed fairly comparing with other category. But can anyone point to me some evidence that we (EB 485) are not receiving fair treatment? More important, what exactly can we ask for from congressman

Its a Go!

Here is an e-mail I have sent out this morning:

Folks, I think we are getting ready to file a law suit against INS for 485 delays. I think we have enough legal support to at least sustain a cause of action. Our team has researched preliminarily some of the law in our support. A member of the community pointed out AC21 also. I doubt if we can file a private law suit to enforce these provisions. But at least we can make an argument. See attached memo. This memo is very rough, so please ignore any semantics that you find faulty.

What I need now from the community now is a list of may be 5 to10 I-485 applicants whose applications have been pending for a long time; who have relatively "clean cases" (degrees from USA, verifiable experience, no criminal background, working with the same employer who is processing the green card and preferably some extraordinary hardship because of the delay).

These people must be committed and make themselves available as needed for speaking with us on the phone. They must sign contracts with our firm agreeing to our representation. They will be charged nothing. But if you folks wish to collect money, please do so on volunteer basis. Vijay Sharma, vijay.sharma@immigration.com can open an account to hold the funds. You can contact him directly. We would certainly welcome contributions from the community. It will help us expend more resources towards the litigation.

Suman ji, our team just needs to meet with me today. I will explain the logistics. Monica, post this announcement in the Moderators' forum also.

Let me know.

Re: how do i reply to congressman

Hi hidden_dragon, you may want to use this letter. (click here), modify a little if you need to and just emphasize that these delays are reaching illegal limits.

thanks,
