Processing time for green card based on asylum

Hi all

My asylum case was approved Aug 30th and my lawyer advised that I apply for GC after 6 months (i.e., March 1st), my concern with the new administration the rule to apply for GC before the 1 year may change. Now, I am confused what to do. Could you please advise if it would be safe to file my GC application before Jan 20th (that would be 4 months 3 weeks after approval)?

Also, what is currently processing time for asylum based GC?

Thanks
Go ahead and apply immediately. It takes up to 1 and half or 2 years to be approved. Don’t waste your time.

Your lawyer's advice was based on the current policy, and he assumed that nothing would change in 6 months (Feb 2025). In my opinion, you should file now which you are eligible to file it early based on the current policy. Once your application is accepted into their system, they will not cancel it once or after he is in office. The processing time is likely to take longer than the current pace, which is about 16 months and you should have already met the one-year residency requirement.

The best answer would be to consult your lawyer if you want to file it now instead of waiting until February 2025. You hired a lawyer to help you with the process! Utilize them!
Thanks for your reply. For how long the medical exam is valid?

Hi, can you please advise the first 3 letters of the case when you apply for I-485?
IOE, MSC or other?
I read that if you send paper then it will be MSC but USCIS can change it for IOE

Hello guys,

If the new administration is planning to change the rule that allows asylees to file for GC before the 1 year, would that change be a day one thing or they would need time to change that policy?

Nobody would be able to answer this question honestly. It's a matter of waiting and seeing how things go. Anything is possible with Trump in office.

Just like @seeker512 said, the medical exam result will not expire. You should include it in your application packet to prevent unnecessary delay. I also read somewhere recently that it is a must to include it; otherwise, the application will be rejected.

Mine is also MSC. I don't think IOE will be assigned for paper filing.

And the number after year is 9? MSC249? Or different number after MSC24? I read that is should be 9 after year because it is for asylees but want to be sure

Mine is MSC239, so the year is followed by 9. However, I am unsure if it follows the pattern you mentioned or just a coincidence.
