I share the following news with others about the changes expected in the Immigration processes.

-----------
Q We need your help.

THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I’ve said every time I’ve been on the show, Piolín, we’re going to make sure that we begin the process of dealing with the immigration system that’s broken. We’re going to start by really trying to work on how to improve the current system so that people who want to be naturalized, who want to become citizens, like you did, that they are able to do it; that it’s cheaper, that it’s faster, that they have an easier time in terms of sponsoring family members.

And then we’ve got to have comprehensive immigration reform. Now, you know, we need to get started working on it now. It’s going to take some time to move that forward, but I’m very committed to making it happen. And we’re going to be convening leadership on this issue so that we can start getting that legislation drawn up over the next several months.

I have the feeling that President Obama will do what's necessary to fix the mess we are in, and of course our broken immigration system.

We have got to give him time, because it is of the essence to do so. Our current situation in the US is difficult wherever we look.

But we will come ahead because we Americans of Heart and Soul do not give up. We never give up until the fight is done. And we always come ahead. :D

The first and foremost thing, and the easiest way, to do this is start the campaign among Custom and Immigration officials to RESPECT the US citizens and PRs. US citizens used to be well respected when entering the US embassy and the US borders. Nowadays, we are being treated like the would-be terrorists just because one person holding a US passport tried to blow up the plane (the shoe bomber) and a few others helping the terrorists.

That does not cost any additional expenditure on the US government and it will just generate good will that other countries envy.

I have just heard so many stories about green cards holders when coming in from board, get terrorized by those Immigration officials. Their crime, just stay outside of the US for too long.

Years ago, every time I entered on H1B after
a trip abroad, it was never nice. Got often some crude
remarks and not so polite behavior from IO.
Once I had my green card, it got much better.
The IO at the POE were friendly, and greeted me
every time with a "welcome back".

Now, I will experience a few months how it
is when coming back as a US citizen.

My wife (a natural-born U.S. citizen) and I went to Mexico a couple of months ago. When we returned, we were greeted by a rather nasty IO. The exchange went something like this:

IO: Where did you travel?
Us: Mexico
IO: Why did you go to Mexico?
Us: Vacation
IO: How long were you there?
Us: A week
IO: <stamped our passports and waved us on>

That's it. No "welcome home" or anything like that. This was my first time coming home from abroad as a U.S. citizen, and it wasn't a warm and fuzzy experience everyone talks about.:D

Richard Reid was never a US citizen. He is, however, a US permanent resident by virtue of his life sentence in a US prison.

Would you prefer that their GCs be yanked with a smile? :)

There is one area the present administration can do to increase efficiancy in the N-400 process. The fingerprit is just unnecessar waste of time money and employee resources. All N-400 applicants have been fingerprinted when they applied for green card. The finger prints don't change for life time. As soon as they get the application they can pull the previous finger print from the file and sent it to FBI for FP check as well as for name check. It could save some money to all applicants. Those employees at ASC can be effectively be used for other activiites. As well USCIS can instal a self test computer kiosk at every ASC centers to do the civic test. Something simillar to the one at all state driving license offices. Many people will be more comfortable and less nervous to answer the machines than the Interviewing officers. IO can focus on reviewing N-400 application and giving written and reading test. They can do more interviews a day if their time is saved. We all must write to all congressman/woman , senators and white house with various idea to reduce waste in the process. The old bureaucrats may complicate the system unnecessarily to exercise their control over it and this only delays the processing. The post 9/11 attitude is of the most un-friendly relationship with all the immigration applicants. Everyone was a suspct . The new administration must instruct the USCIS officials to treat new immigrants with dignity and respect. There must be an educational retraining and rehabilitation to change their mindset and attitude is necessary.
