Hi folks,
Here's an update on the procedures my wife and I went through when we went for stamping our passports in Houston after I485 approvals.
-Getting to the BCIS Center/Parking:
About a couple of blocks after entering the lane (after exiting I45 going north, exit #60B) with the BCIS office, there's a parking lot on the left that says "INS Parking". The BCIS office is diagonally across from the parking lot.
-Standing in (usually long) line for a token vs Going through the appointment line:
We went to stand in line around 5.15-5.30 am. Security guards started allowing people standing in line into the BCIS office at around 6.30ish. There's only one entrance into the BCIS office and people who had prior appointments (those who had an orange slip) were allowed to go in first. All stamping-related folks had no such slip (I assume/believe) and thus needed to stand in the non-appointment line. After clearing through security, everyone got into the BCIS office and stood in line within the office for the actual token.
-The token and wait:
We got our tokens at around 7.20-7.30ish and proceeded to wait till our numbers were called after about an hour or so. Restrooms and vending machines (need some real crispy bills else...) are readily accessible.
-Documents required:
We took the usual list: The approval notice, I-94s, photos, EADs, APs, passports. We were also asked for the old EADs and APs. In case you have an address change, it helps to take your license or the sheet/docket from BCIS that comes along with your latest EAD, with your latest address shown on that sheet.
-The Stamping:
The BCIS rep was really efficient and went through the stamping process in about 15 mins or so. The rep filled out a form for us, made sure that the correct address was filled in to receive the GCs, took our fingerprints and signature, and finally stamped our passports.
-Husband and wife:
Are usually given separate tokens. However, it is likely that BCIS rep will process the stamping together if both go to the window when the first token no. is called out.
-Advise:
The earlier you stand in line the faster you are likely to finish the process. We got off by around 9.15ish.

do we have to go that early
I am thinking ahead. If someday, I finally come to the stage to do the stamping:
1. do we have to go that early, is it possible that we can still be stamped if we go in at around 8 or 9, or even in the afternoon?
2. Do husband and wife have to go together? I am asking becasue if we have to go that early, I don't know what I am going to do with my little ones.

Processing time at Houston office
I have checked some old Houston transfer cases, the fastest time between interview and TD is around 3 months and the slowest is 18 months. Most cases took around 8~14 months though. I know it is very sad, but it seems that they are still working as the same way now adays, I am afraid.
So, they are not joking about the 1 more year of waiting.

I looked at the AILA web site last week which spoke about the meeting in Congress about the backlog in processing. The end result is that by the end 2006, it will only take 6 months for processing. Too bad we didn't have that opportunity during our time.
Does anyone know when the update for local office processing times will be posted on this site?
I'm anxious to see if the houston office processing time will change from 665 days.

Welcom to join our boat but regretfully nobody know. We just only presume the earlist interview notice will be 3 months later after transfer or FP.

we could request jaxen the moderator to delete the other thread.

But today i am checking into this thread because I am considering an offer to move back to Houston from DC area.
i will definitely pray that i don't join your ranks but
I am expecting the worst - that is transfer to houston.
since i moved from Houston to VA in Aug 03 and now back to Houston in July 04.
I couldn't establish a trend as to why transfer to local office ? I think with NIW cases, i think they want to scrutinise more. but with eb2 & eb3 unless
you have moved, i don't why.
what are your thoughts ?

It seems to me that the online processing dates are not accurate. I believe that the transfer date is more valid. So for those who got transfered to the Houston Office, it is quite possible that the interview should come in around 6 months.
I was transfered in January 23 2004.
I did Fingerprints in April 21 2004.
My interview is July 19 2004.
So it took about 6 months.

good news
It is good to see interview notice coming out of Houston office, even though I have a Nov. 01 RD and still waiting.
It seems that TD is the standard Houston office is using, it may not seem fair to people holding a earleir RD, but any activity is better than no activity. My TD is March, and I look forward to seeing something by Sept if any all possible.
