I had my green card through asylum ,they suppose to back date my card for one year back but they did not (mistake) Ibeen aproved on jan 2006 so my green card should be dated jan 2005 but they did a mistake and they dated jan 2006. My question when i need to applied for a citizenship jan 2010-3 months and explain to them it's uscis mistake or jan 2011-3 months

It seems that it might take a long time to correct and by teh time it is corrected, you probaly will have 5 years of residence anyway even if
it is not backdated.

I know somoene who got it corrected within 9 months.

9 month is a long time considering the correction is for 12 month
change. But yes no matter ho wlong it takes, the OP should correct
the date first. What is the form to request for correction?

When you say they were supposed to backdate your GC, is this something they promised you or is it something you are expecting?

I remmeber I once read that. GC can be backdated for one year for asylee

It happened with me, they sent me the card without backdating, i filled out the form and i sent it back immediately along with a letter to explain the error and i even highlighted the wrong date and pointed it out on the copy, a month later i received my card with the same mistake again!! i filed out the form and i sent it once again, my congressman was already familiar with my forever pending I-485, i informed him about this incident and he contacted the USCIS on my behalf and finally i received the card with the right date on it this time, i think it took another 3 months.
You need to fill out the form and send it with the old card, i would call the 1800# first to ask for the updated form and where to send it.
Also, make a copy of it and send it with your letter/fax to your congress man to expedite the process.
For those who don't know, Asylees get 1 year credit on their "resident since date"
due to the 1 year waiting before applying for I-485 rule.
Good luck!

Green cards are always backdated one year for asylees. I have my green card through asylum. I received it in August of 2005 but the date on it was August 2004. It is by law that USCIS is required to do so.

If it's something they should do automatically for aslyees, then you should request for them to correct it. It shouldn't take them very long to change your status, although it may take them longer to give you a new physical GC. You might even be able to get away filing your citizenship based on earlier GC date by including a letter with your application explaining the situation.
Speak with an IO first via phone or Infopass to see how to proceed.

If I were you, I'd apply for a corrected GC (you shouldn't have to pay since it was their mistake) and then take the receipt notice and get your passport (if you use one) stamped as proof of LPR status. This should suffice for your citizenship application.

You are by law entitled to have an one year backdating. Please have the card corrected asap. You should have it done much earlier--right after you got the card.

The question here is do they have the wrong date in the computer system too (i have seen examples both ways). If they have the right date in the system it is OK to submit based on the incorrectly dated card. But if the system has the wrong date too then you run a high risk of having your N-400 rejected by the data entry people.

Good point, hence the suggestion for the OP to speak with an IO first to see how to proceed. The IO should be able to tell the OP the status they have in their system.
