Calgary, Canada H1B stamping
Guys, here is my experience.
appointment at 8:30am so i reached there by 7:45am. Small line of may b 4 or 5 infront of me. The consulate opens at 8:30. So i guess, i did have the 1st slot. slowly but surely the queue is growing bigger at the time nears.
A security guy takes a bactck of 6 people and escort us to the consulate on the 10th floor. Then one guy checks everything what we have and sends us inside the consulate with a token number.
One by one each token number is called, and my number comes and the lady collects all doc's from me including i20's and i pay her the $100 and she says to wait till my name is called for the interview.
Verification officer calls my name and i go. I wish him and he sees that i graduated this year and i have been here since 2003. Looks at my documents, and passport,,,,sees the i94 and takes it out.then tells me that "let me takes this (i94) out so that you 'll have 1 less thing to carry. I figured out that he would most likely give me the H1 but held on my nerves.Meanwhile he cancels my f1 visa with a stamp saying "cancelled without prejudice". Then he ask me the question, what are you working, i say XXXXXXX. and then he ask me to describe that a little which i did and he said to come the same day at 3:00pm to collect the visa and finally he said, "have a safe return flight". Overall, it was a good experience for me,
I had pretty much every document with me JUST IN CASE.
so wat i can say is as long as the documents are clear and legit and so give a good impression on the VO's, no one should have problem.
By the way i stayed at days inn hotel for $80/night which was reasonalby cheaper compare to the others nearby. and you got train two blocks away from the hotel. It was very convenient and not bad at all. the room was very good.
But if u r willing to pay more, there r some good ones near to consulate.
and finally, i wud like to thank this forum. it did give me lot of insight into how to deal with different situtations
