Hi guys,

I will be going to Canada for Visa stamping shortly. I am in the process of applying for Temporary Resident Visa from Canadian Embassy. While filling the application there is an option to choose either Single Entry or Multiple Entry Visa. I was reading the insturctions and found this

A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. This visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon provided you do not enter another country.

I am planning to go to India after I get stamping(not directly from Canada). Does the above mean I can visit Canada as many times as I want if I dont go to India. But I cant go to Canada if I wanted to in future after returning from India with out getting a new visa? This is my understanding from the above line.

Can you please tell me whether I am correct or not.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

Could you please let me know whether going to Canada for H1b Stamping is a safe bet rather than going to India? I am a H1B holder and have been in the US for 3 years. This is my 2nd H1b stamping, first one done in Chennai, India.
Please note that I don't have a US degree, but have educational evaluation saying US equiv of BS.
Is it risky to go to Canada if you don't have a US degree?
I would really appreciate your reply to this.
Thank you.

I had a single entry visa and when entering canada they did not even stamp the visa page to suggest that visa has been used.
so theoretically you should be able to enter many times from US but not from other countries.

Is H-4 Approval Required for Wife for Restamping

Could anyone please let me know if the H-4 approval is required for wife even though she has a valid I-94 for visa revalidation in Canada? I did not apply for her I-539 because she had a valid I-94 until next year.
This is going to be 3rd visa stamp for us with the current employer’s sponsorship. Fist one got in India and DOS revalidated the second time.

Could you also let me know what’s the waiting time to get the appointment in Toronto or Ottawa?

I would really appreciate your reply.

Thanks and Regards,

folks,

I appreciate your replies on my following questions.

Scenario:

I am on H1B, currently located in USA. I got my 7th year H1B extension based on pending labor. I need to travel to India but looks like the wait period for appointment is 4 months. I am planning getting the Visa stamped in Canada.

My questions follows.

1.Is it possible to get VISA stamped in Canada for existing H1B?.
2. At present my VISA stamping is expired , is it possible to get VISA to Canada to attend the interview?
3.Please advise me on the possible risks etc.

I appreciate your answers.

Thanks

Canadian consulate in US will give you Canadaian visa as you can show them your approval for H1 status. But the only thing is that you will have to have a valid visa stamped while coming back as they don't let you in without a valid stamped visa on pp. But again ,if your case is straight forward you shouldn't have problem in getting visa stamped in canada.

This is not a legal advice...

I booked an appointment through nvars.com for me and my wife. I've given the details of my wife along with me while scheduling the appointment.

Now someone in this forum had posted that I need 2 appointments one for me and one for my wife. There are no appointments available for that day, for the week.

Is one appointment enough? For chennai one appointment is good for upto 10 dependants?

Anyone, please let me know

H1 Revalidation in Vacouver. Info required

I am having an appointment on 6th of June in Vacouver for my H1B stamping.
This my first H1B restamping(first 3yrs are over). I have gone thru the forum and it looks straight forward getting a visa if we have proper documentation.
I have question, my visa got expired in Jan 2005. But my employer filed for the extension of H1B in Nov 2004. I got the LIN in Nov 2004 and got the approval notice (I797) in March. So if I go for stamping to Vancouver, is there any risk? Your input is greatly appreciated

Interview process in Toronto changed?

Has anybody applied for us visa at toronto consulate? What was the procedure adopted?
I heard that recently (from last week or so) toronto office changed the process, and now the visa interview is conducted by junior level staff. They record all the questions and your answers, which is then forwarded to senior level visa officers who then decide for visa grant (in your absence) and let you know the decision in about three weeks time.
Is that true? anybody with recent experience, please share?

Hi Kovai

Just wondering if all H1B approval notices have to be Original. Out of the 3 H1B approval notices, I just have 1st and 3rd H1 in Original. Second one is a copy. Is this a problem??

Thanks

Hi Jithendar,
Congrats!
Could you please quote your experience in more detail.
Also did you had US degree? Can the visa fees be paid in cash US dollars ? do you get the passport back the same day?
Would appreciate your response.

Thanks,

My visa expired more than one year ago. Does stamping in canada is safe. or do we have to go to home country. I think stamping in home country is safe because visa already expired than in Canada.

PLease share your experiences

THanks

Successful 7th year H1b stamping in Calgary - May 05!

Had successful stamping at Calgary recently.

Some notes:

* At ground floor of the building, the security checks for the appointment letter and escorts you to 10th floor. Don't go earlier than your appointment time as they don't allow you earlier than 15-20 minutes before the time on your letter.
* 10th floor there is xray/security check again and guard will give you a token with a number.
* When you are called go to Window 1 with all required documents and $100 fee (US Dollar cash OK). Take the receipt and sit (there is TV - discovery channel)
* Officer in Window 2 or 3 will call your name and ask how long you have been working, what do you do, employment letter (and in one case last year's W2). And if all ok asks to provide finger prints. If that clears asks you to pay cashier. Have exact change in US Dollars (for Indians $50)
* Cashier will give receipt, take that to the officer who interviewed you who will give you a piece of paper asking you to collect the visa on the same day.
* Take a stroll in beautiful downtown Calgary and then go to ground floor at 3PM to collect your passport. Make sure it is multiple entry etc.
* Drive to airport for evening flight back to US
* At airline counter ask for white I-94. Fill it and in US immigration officer will remove the old one and attach the new one. Officer asked why I was in Canada and I told I was there for visa renewal and she did not ask any more questions.

By the way this was my 7th year extension, been with the same company for 4 years. So I guess as long as your ducks are in row there should not be any issues.

There were not many H1 folks though at consulate - sign of declining popularity and all the hassles with H1bs and scare stories at Border Posts?

Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions just shoot me an email or post here.

Hi Suhasini7,
Congrat! and Thanks for the detailed message.
Did you do your education in US (MS or BS)?
The reason I am asking this is, people say if your degree is not from US then its risky to go to Canada for stamping. Is this true eventhough a person has all the documents to prove his status in US?
I would really appreciate your reply as I am planning to go to Canada for H1B stamping because in Chennai Consulate it is taking 4.5 months to get an appt.
I am not a US degree holder but has all the documents to prove my status.
Thanks again.

regards.

I am also in same situation. I have to go for my H1B extension second time. First time I did in chennai. Mine is not US Degree.

It is my fourth revalidation and no one has asked my degree certs yet

rvp123 and myquestion - RELAX!

I know the appointment letter says officers may not be able to judge your case if your education qualification is foreign etc etc, but take it from someone who has gone through FOUR revalidations at Border posts (3 of them after 9/11). Two at Mexico and last two at Canada.

Officers just don't ask for the educational certificates. Have it with you for sure, but if it is renewal or revalidation they just don't think it is an issue as you are ALREADY working in US and have the documents to prove it.

From my experience - have recent paystubs, letter from employer - and preferably from your reporting manager listing all your duties, last few W2s - these should be at the top of your file folder as these are the documents frequently asked by the officers.

If your salary is above average (above $100K) etc they may not ask any questions. They are there to enforce law which is to make sure that you have never been out of status and you are not working for slave wages.

So don't worry, be confident and polite and go for it. This post is addressed to those already in H1b and not to F1 to H1 etc.

Last but no the least, stop listening to know-it-all desi experts who feed you with wrong information. Follow the law and no one can derail you. So don't worry! Only risk with Canada as I see it is if your name and date of birth are closer to that of bad guys.

Good luck.

Just my experience and use your own judgement (just a legal disclaimer)

Thanks much suhasini7 for your quick and positive response. I really appreciate that.
I changed from L1 to H1B (L1 visa expired) in US itself, now I have to get H1B stamping if I travel out of country.
Do you think Canada is a better option eventhough my case is L1-H1 stamping
instead of normal H1-H1 renewal or revalidation.
Your insights would really help.
Thanks again.

Regards.
