DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hi, everyone! Thank you for creating this chat, appreciate a wealth of information provided here.

Given that, my case number is around EU00012***, and currently based in US under f-1 opt visa with my family, which will expire in february 2026, I have few questions to ask:

1.
In my application, I initially indicated Consular Processing (CP) in Almaty, Kazakhstan on the DS-260, but I have not submitted it yet. I’ve now decided to pursue Adjustment of Status (AOS) from within the U.S.

Can I proceed with submitting the DS-260 and paying the fee under AOS concurrently? If so, how should I reflect this change in my application, and what is the correct way to notify KCC of the switch from CP to AOS?

2. My husband had filed his U-visa application, and it is still pending. Will it somehow impact my application, and do i have to show in my documents somehow that I was a derivative in his application?

3. In DS -260, there is a question regarding alien registration number, do I have to reflect the number from my EAD card that is USCIS #?

Thank you very much and will truly appreciate every response to my specific questions.

1. How can I be sure that the lockbox will receive and accept my AOS package by July 2nd if I send it around June 20th? It just seems risky, do you agree?
2. I know that the CS will be willing to complete as many medical reports as I need, but I was wondering if he will request another payment after the first one I already made
1. There’s a thousand and one reasons as to why an AOS package could be rejected, I can’t start listing them all. You prepare your package as best as you can, forms fully completed and signed, correct applicable fee included, guaranteed (courier?) mail delivery, etc.
2. Did you miss the “as long as you’re willing to pay” part about of my previous response?

Thank you for your answer, Mom. I am really frustrated. The process took so long, we have been still waiting, and every day is another stress. So we make some mistakes eventually.

While making a research about it, I found this link: https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/aler...le-for-civil-surgeon-signatures-on-form-i-693

Is this still a valid policy? So if I early file my AOS package in June and if they process it before July 2nd, then they have to accept my i693 without any issue, right? And should I print this page and attach my i693 envelope to make sure that they are aware of the policy and they should accept it?
1. The policy is still very much in effect. It has nothing to do with using the applicable edition of the I-693 form as at the time of filing. Attaching the Memo does not override the requirement for medical reports received from July 3rd to be on the new edition of the I693 form.
2. The issue is not about when your application gets adjudicated, it is about the edition of the form in effect as at when the Lockbox receives and accepts your AOS package.

1. If your DS260 form was never submitted, there’s nothing to inform KCC about switching from CP to AOS. You can initiate the AOS process without submitting the DS260 form.
2. No impact.
3. See response 1 above regarding DS260 form.

Today, my interview was at 9:30 AM, and I attended with my wife and one child.
I arrived at 8:15 AM and waited in the parking lot until 9:00 AM, then went inside.
We waited until exactly 9:40 AM, when the officer came out and called my name, so we waited only 10 minutes past our scheduled interview time.

The interview was very easy. The officer was kind, cheerful, and very welcoming.
In fact, the interview was so easy that even my F1 student visa interview was much more difficult in comparison.

After we took the oath, the officer said the interview would be quick and that we would go over the I-485 application together.

She started by asking me about my:

Full name

Date of birth

Place of birth

Current home address

Employment history inside the U.S. only (she wasn’t interested in anything outside the U.S. this applies to work history too)

She then asked:

My parents’ names, dates of birth, and current place of residence

The date and place of my marriage

How I met my wife

My son’s name and date of birth

How I manage my finances here in the U.S.

Then we moved on to the yes/no questions from the I-485. She didn’t ask all of them, only the important ones, and she asked me and my wife at the same time.

She didn’t ask for any original documents at all — not the birth certificate, university degrees, marriage certificate, or I-134.

Everything was easy and smooth. I understand that interview experiences can vary a lot depending on the field office, but this was my experience at the Detroit field office.

My advice:

1. Read all the previous interview experiences for your specific field office. I spent yesterday reading past Detroit FO experiences and today's interview was very similar in trend.

2. Memorize your I-485 thoroughly.

After the interview I asked if we had cleared our background checks and she said everything looks fine by the look of it, and that she will check again and update our cases. The Interview ended at exactly 10am.

On the way home, I was stuck at a traffic light. I checked the website and the status had already been changed to New Card Is Being Produced. This was like 20-25 minutes after the interview.

Thank you to this amazing forum, and thank you to everyone who helped me. Special thanks to mom.
This forum made everything so much easier.

Congratulations.

Thank you @Sm1smom for your quick response.

If I decide to submit DS-260 indicating CP and pay the immigrant visa fee to keep the process moving. Would it be ok switching from CP to AOS just by notifying them in email to KCC?

You don’t pay any fees until the interview if you do CP.

Why do you want to needlessly complicate the process for yourself?

I just wanted to be on the safe side, if at this point I have already indicated CP, but decided to pursue with AOS. Then no need to submit ds. I understood your message. Thank you so much on that.

WAAAAAAAAOH CONGRATS.

Hi mom, I’ve been reading through older threads, and I saw that you mentioned the originals of the documents are expected during the interview. Right now, I’m doing my master’s in the U.S., but all my previous diplomas, bachelor’s and high school, are in my home country and not with me. I have scanned versions with me, but not the original ones. And here, I have not graduated yet, so I do not have a diploma, only a transcript. In this case, if they ask for them, would it make sense to get them shipped from abroad before the interview? I wanted to ask you since there’s still time.
Also, I received my EAD card about a week ago, and I had applied for it about a month ago. Would it make sense to reuse the same two photos from that application for my I-485? According to what I read online, the only requirement is that they shouldn’t be older than 6 months.

1. Get the originals shipped to you.
2. You may reuse them if they’re not more than six months old.

The AOS Process and Documents_Updated Document warns about "possible loss of current status" if AOS is denied, especially if you don't have a dual intent visa.

I believe AOS adjudication has to be a formal "denial" if the process is not completed by September 30th for whatever reason. I'm wondering two things:

1) Is it really a revocation of status or revocation of the non-immigrant visa (the distinction matters for someone on OPT)?
2) How is a revocation communicated in either case?

I have a high case number and therefore being stuck in the background check is a possibility. My company's I-129 petition (H-1B, consular processing) is in the works, but estimated time for adjudication is 7 months. I fear if the case is denied then my OPT will be revoked and H-1B approval won't come in time to save my butt.

The AOS Process and Documents_Updated Document warns about "possible loss of current status" if AOS is denied, especially if you don't have a dual intent visa.
Where precisely, as in which section of the AOS process spreadsheet says the above?

Pros/Cons page line 15. I'm now realizing that's under Consular processing. So does this mean if AOS process results in denial, then the current status isn't revoked?
Yeah, I needed to know precisely where you saw that because what you initially wrote didn’t make sense. AOS denial does not revoke an applicant’s current status, you basically continue in whatever status you were in prior to AOS filing as long as that status did not expire while your AOS application is pending.
