DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hi Mom, Our number is active, and we will do AOS, we got married in the US a year and a half ago, but we are not married in our home country and we never really thought of this as an issue. However, when we upload our documents, do you think they will cause any problems because of this? We have our marriage certificate, but in the records we obtained from our home country, we will not appear as married
Not a problem. As long as your marriage is valid in the country it took place in its fine. Common example is gay couples marrying elsewhere because their home country doesn’t allow it.

Dear Mom,

What is your prediction for Europe in the last 2 months? Your prediction is very valuable to us. Our number is at 29300. We are very scared and we don't know much. Morale is very flexible. We are grateful to you. Can we send our file on July 1, 10 days before the announcement, in case it is current in the latest bulletin, which will be announced on July 10?

1. I'm sorry I do not make predictions, I have no idea as to how the EU region, or any other region for that matter, will end up looking like.
2. No, you cannot sent out your AOS package prior to the VB covering your CN gets released. If you do, your package will most likely be rejected by the Lockbox. Early filing requires the VB to first get release.

My case number is EU25, and with the latest Visa Bulletin updates, I’m starting to lose hope. I noticed the chart you shared showing the average number of days to approval by month. July - 61, August - 47. It seems that cases processed later in the fiscal year, especially closer to the end of the month, tend to move faster - due to the September 30 deadline.

If my number becomes current in August or September, is it still realistic for the case to be fully processed within such a short window, say 30 days? Have there been any success stories where applicants had interviews in early or mid-September and still received their green cards before the end of the month?

1. While it is generally true that case processing time tends to pick up towards the end of the FY, what you need to be looking at is the average processing time by your applicable FO, and not the average processing time by any particular month.
2. I cannot guarantee any particular case will be successfully processed by the end of the FY, regardless of if the application was filed at the beginning of the FY, or within the last 30 days of the FY as there are several factors to contend with as part of the process. Each applicant’s background, chargeability country, FO’s workload and scheduling practice, etc will vary.
3. Take a look at some of the past Timeline spreadsheets. The GC does not need to be received by the end of September, the application only needs to be approved by then. GC can be received much later.

Thanks. Where can I find data on the average processing time by my FO (Memphis, TN) and scheduling practice? I tried to look it up online on the USCIS check processing time website, but after selecting Form I-485, I don't see the DV option and my FO.

Hey, all!
@Sm1smom thank you for the work you do daily!
I have a question.
DV lottery 2025 co-winner (my wife won) (small number EU8xxx).
Living in the USA as an H1B/H4.
We filed as AOS in Nov-2024, got biometrics in Dec-2024, and went through the interview in Mar-2025 (Miami, FL FO).
After the interview, the inspector told us that my wife (but not I) has a pending security check.
Almost two months have passed since then, and there has been radio silence. There will be a 180th day at the end of May-2025.
What would you recommend after the 180th day:
- sit and wait for more
- make an inquiry through the telephone line
- start working on congressional inquiry
- smth else?...

The USCIS processing site does not include DV cases. The timeline spreadsheets here are your best bet.

The Timeline spreadsheets from this forum. Take a look at the “Timeline” tab of the AOS Process spreadsheet to see the links to all the past Timeline spreadsheets maintained by this forum. USCIS does not separately track DV based AOS applications.

Initiate a congressional case assistance inquiry.

My ASC is in Alexandria, VA. Based on the timeline of last year, these ASC applications were all held back, and then received an interview waiver in September. It is possible they are doing the same thing again this year. Can I change ASC?
Do you mean your FO? It is allocated based on where you live so no, unless you move to a different jurisdiction (which is really not recommended precisely due to issues that have arisen in past years with changing FOs). (Sometimes USCIS will change someone’s FO to spread workload, but that comes at their initiative, not yours.)

Generic question to people doing AOS this year, could you please share the first 6 characters of your USCIS tracking number for I485 if it's different than MSC259? It's not identifiable in any way. First three letters indicate processing center, then 25 is for FY, and last digit is for system used (it should be 9, 5 or 0, I'd be interested to know if there's a digit that's anything different than that). Just those, not the entire number.

Hello everyone!
My status is visa H1B
Field office: Los-Angeles
My number is EU7***, and I submitted i485 on February 5th. Since then, my case has not been updated starting from February 12th.
My case has been in the status “Fingerprints were taken” for 3.5 months
On April 7th, I submitted a service request by calling USCIS, but after two weeks, I received a response that my case is delayed due to workload factors and is in the queue.
Since then, almost a month have passed, and nothing has changed. What should I do?
Do I need to do something, or should I just wait for some update in my case?
Thank you for the advice

Hello everyone. I've been meaning to write for a long time, but just never got around to it. We received our Green Card at the beginning of May—it's already in our hands.
Let me start our story from the beginning, so that anyone who finds themselves in our situation can have hope.
We came to the U.S. with our family on a tourist visa in October 2022. In January 2023, we applied for asylum. Then, in May 2024, my husband won the DV Lottery. We didn’t know whether to be happy or not, because I had heard before that it’s not possible to get a Green Card through the DV Lottery if you have a pending asylum case.I reached out to several lawyers, and all of them said the chances were low—and, of course, they were asking for a lot of money. In the end, I decided to do everything myself and found your forum. I started reading everything and began by paying the DV visa fee. Then I started filling out the I-485 form using your sample as a guide, and I found a doctor for the medical checkup.
At the beginning of October, we sent all our documents to Illinois. At the end of October, we did our fingerprints, and after that, there was complete silence. I contacted a live agent, we spoke with Tier 2 officers, and everyone just kept saying to wait…
And then, one beautiful day—on March 22—we received our long-awaited interview notice from USCIS. The interview was scheduled for April 24 at 8 a.mOn April 24, we were already at the location by 7:30 a.m.—me, my husband, and our three children (the third one is a U.S. citizen). At 8:15, our officer called us in. We entered the office, and the first thing we did was take an oath to tell the truth. Then we sat down, and he asked for our passports and IDs. After that, he asked for copies of our birth certificates and also requested my diploma.
He said he would be asking questions to both me and my husband. He asked the same questions to each of us, one after the other. The questions were all from the I-485 form: our names, dates of birth, mailing address, our parents’ names, employment details, and then the standard Yes/No questions. He took pictures of me and my husband. Then we signed our I-485 forms for ourselves and for the kids. That was it—he said the interview was over. We asked him what the decision would be, and he said it wasn’t up to him—the DV visa department makes that decision—and that we would receive the result by mail. So, we left the office… Within an hour, I kept checking our USCIS account, but nothing changed. Two hours later, I checked again and couldn’t believe my eyes—it said “New card is being produced.” We were in shock, and at the same time, tears of joy filled our eyes.I also want to add that our interview went very smoothly. The officer was so kind, even made a few jokes.
So, I wish everyone who is dreaming and waiting that they receive their long-awaited Green Card very soon. I’ll write our full timeline below.
To everyone who helped—thank you so much. And Mom and Suzi, a special thank you to you both. 10/02- Case was delivered to lockbox. 10/30- fingerprints was submitted 03/22 - received letter about interview 04/24-interview date 04/24- new card is being produced 04/25- Case was approved 04/29- received approved letter 05/02- received green card.
Hi Olya, Congratulations, I have a question for you, did you submit any document such as notice of action or receipt notice of pending asylum case with your aos package. Thank you.

Hello. 2025AS1xxx. I am filling out i485 using your sample. in part 2, question 2 I saw that Principal applicant is checked but N/A is used in the name fields. should not we put our first and family name?

The LA FO tends to take a while to schedule the interview. If you take a look at the 2025 Timeline Spreadsheet (and some of the previous years), you’ll be able to compare your case progress with similar cases from your FO. At this point, it wouldn’t hurt to initiate a congressional inquiry though.

p.s. do add your case updates to the 2025 Timeline Spreadsheet.

Only the derivative applicant is required to list the principal applicant’s first and last name in that referenced section.

@Sm1smom hello I am in a dilemma and would love your advice. I am currently on H1B visa but I will have to submit form I-539 soon to change to F2 visa. Will having a pending I-539 affect me in any way should I submit I-485 later when my CN becomes current?
