DV 2025 All Selectees (Consular Processing - CP)

Hello everyone,

I have been selected in DV-2025 and my case has been current since March. Due to issues with the AVITS platform (used in France and some other countries for appointment scheduling/rescheduling and confirmation), I've missed my appointment and cannot reschedule. Nobody seems able to answer me — KCC told me that they're not allowed to help me as my case is in the Paris embassy, the Paris embassy doesn't take calls, and the DoS contact form is made for people with cases at NVC, not DV.

Is there anything I can do to solve my case? At this point, I'm willing to buy a courier pigeon to deliver my DS-260 to the embassy if this helps unstuck my case.

Thanks in advance!
You have to contact Paris embassy somehow. Your case is with them. What do you mean they don't take calls?

If I call and mention "visa" to the operator, my call gets redirected to a voicemail that gives me instruction on how to use their (awful) platform. I have sent them three emails over the past two weeks, without answer. At the moment I’m considering sending them a (regular) mail, a fax or just trying to go in person (I’m 400 km away, but hey, if that’s what it takes…).

Curious to know, how did you end up missing your scheduled interview appointment?

I could not confirm my appointment due to those same technical issues, despite trying almost every day for more than two weeks and three tickets to their customer support.

I see. That’s interesting. Why didn’t you just take a chance and still show up for the interview as scheduled though?

I couldn’t due to not having a printed confirmation, plus I have been informed of my scheduled appointment after trying to confirm it — as the instructions were not very clear. I have just been instructed to create an account and follow the steps to receive my appointment date.

Anyways, that’s where I’m at now, and I don’t know what to do from here…

You at least had the scheduled appointment information which you could have printed and taken along though. KCC schedules the appointment and provides the date/time of the appointment - the embassy doesn’t do that. I believe the confirmation process really had to do with arrangements for getting the passport back, if I’m not mistaken. You could have still shown up for the interview with that and explain the difficulties you were experiencing when you got there. That is what I would have done anyways in such a situation.

Not sure what you mean by the instructions not being clear considering several selectees have successfully processed through the Paris embassy over the years based on the same instructions.

Do you have any relatives in the US? (If so they could ask their congressman for help.) I’m not sure what else to suggest other than trying to arrive at the Paris embassy and sweet talking security into letting you at least talk to someone to set it up - assuming you live close enough to make this feasible.

I had received an email telling me to register on the platform to get my appointment date and confirm it. I later checked on the DV website and found, below my confirmation, an appointment letter telling me that my consular appointment had been scheduled mid-March.

The issue I'm having is very weird and has to do with AVITS' backend. Something's related to my account seems to be corrupted, and their support is of little to no help.

Unfortunately no. I have an appointment letter from AVITS with no mentioned date and time, maybe I should try to act dumb with the personnel at the Paris embassy and ask for help in rescheduling.

This is what you were supposed to check when you saw your number was current in the visa bulletin (not later). They would normally let you into the embassy with this. Unfortunately you cant fix the past so just try what you can … or figure out a strategy to get to talk to a person on the phone.

After the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has reviewed your completed DS-260, you may receive an e-mail from KCC to let you know that an interview has been scheduled at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate you selected on your DS-260 form. The e-mail will instruct you to log into the Entrant Status Check on the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website, using your DV entry confirmation number, to view the date, time, and location of your interview. Print this information to take with you to your interview.

This was in the links to follow from your original selection letter

Well, even then, we would have had another issue : my wife and I have a son who was born in early February, and his passport was delivered mid-April. Due to this, we wouldn't have been ready for the interview anyways. I contacted the embassy to inform them and filled his DS-260.

Well, I'll try what I can... Or maybe the customer support will end up being useful, after two months of not being so. Would hiring a visa agency or attorney be of any help?

you seem to find obstacles… you could have gone for the interview and and sent his passport in later.

Visa agencies tend to deal with non immigrant visas. Are there attorneys in France who deal regularly with the US embassy?

HI Sm1smom

I won the DV Lottery. I’m from Somalia and I won in the 2025 fiscal year with case number 2025AF23XXXX. I attended the visa interview in India. They accepted my documents, took my passport, and gave me a 221(g) letter. The letter stated that I needed to submit a valid form of identity.

When I asked for clarification, they told me to provide a valid form of identity. So I contacted people in my home country to get proof that I am Somali. I sent all my Somali IDs and documents proving my identity. They updated my case, but once again they requested a valid form of identity that is not from Somalia.

Then I contacted my family members in the U.S. They made an affidavit confirming that I am Somali. I sent it along with supporting documents. They accepted it and updated my case again. But then they returned my passport and sent me another letter stating:

“We require two forms of non-Somali IDs, issued by a competent authority with sufficient security features.”

Now I’m stuck because I don’t know what else I can submit. If you have any better information or suggestions, please help me. This is not just about me — many people with Somali passports are facing the same issue.

Do you have any kind of document showing your identity /status in the country you are residing in? Examples for Somalis on the DOS website include the below - so anything similar from an official authority should work.

If an applicant has refugee status in another country, please submit copies of refugee or asylee documents. Examples include: 1) Government of Kenya Refugee Certificate or Alien Card or 2) United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) identification (often called the "UNHCR Mandate") 3) Government of Kenya/UNHCR Proof of Registration for refugees, 4) Ugandan Asylum Seeker/Family Attestation Certificate or Ugandan Refugee Identity Card

Thank you for your reply. I do not have any identity or status documents from another country. I have never lived in any other country before, and I have never been registered as a refugee or asylum seeker with any government or with UNHCR. This is my first time traveling outside Somalia, and I came to India only to attend the DV interview. I understand that India offers refugee registration, but the process of getting an ID takes a long time, and I only have about 5 months left before my DV case expires. I already wrote an email to the embassy explaining my situation, but I have not received any reply. What should I do now? Please advise me on what documents, if any, I can submit to meet the requirements.

Sorry, this is not something I can assist with.

Don’t reschedule the interview, attend as already scheduled. There’s no disqualification for being pregnant, regardless of how advanced the pregnancy is. During the interview, you can also ask for guidance on how to get a visa for the baby after your wife puts to bed to enable you all travel together.
