difference between green card and us citzenship

Another one I think more important to me is you don't to renew the GC. Renewal of GC invloves money. I know some people might have GC that doesn't expire. For those this is not a consideration. Most recent GC holders have expire date on their GCs.

escaping deportation risks is worth it alone. The other advantages of becoming a citizen are minor compared to deportation. That sums it up for me. For as long as I'm a permanent resident, I will always feel like I'm just on a temporary status here that can be terminated at any given moment.

Humm.....are you a criminal?:D:D:D (just kidding!)

And many people on Green Cards don't either. It all depends on what other nationalities you hold.

well, there are very few countries that allow green card holders to visit without visa. Countries that allows green card holders are Switzerland, Canada, and Mexico.

As you can see, So many countries allows US citizens to visit without visa.
1) Most European countries (not all)
2) South Korea
3) Japan
4) Australia
5) New Zealand
6) Canada
7) Most South American countries
8) Central American countries
9) Caribbean islands
10) South Africa and some African countries
11) Israel
12) Most countries in Pacific Ocean

You didn't get the point....If you are a French citizen LPR, you'd still travel to most of these countries without a visa :)

I get the point, but I am not talking about french citizen LPR. I mean I am talking about general.. What about african citzen LPR, southeastern asian citizen LPR, south asian LPR, etc? they cannot visit most of these countries without visa. that's why US citizenship is important than green card.

This is incorrect. Only US citizens are eligible to collect their social security benefits.

I think this argument will be worthless as when we retire, social security will eventually dissappear.

I thought you could collect SS benefits regardless of your status and where you live(other than the blacklisted countries)?

Per the current visa bulletin the wait time for siblings (family 4th pref) is almost 11 years (priority date = 22OCT98). PHILIPPINES (priority date = 08AUG86) and MEXICO (priority date = 15JUN95) are a lot longer than that.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_4512.html

Am I not looking at the correct wait times? Because I want to sponsor my sibling and would love it if the wait time was not 11 years  . If there's another way I don't know of -- please share ;) . Can't tell you how happy it would make me to have them over here as PRs.

These are the correct waiting times.

Your information is incorrect. For a person who lives in the U.S., he can collect social security if (i) he has paid enough FICA taxes AND (ii) he is in a lawful immigration status.

I don't understand. There are dozens of countries whose citizens generally do not require a visa to travel abroad, and dozens of countries whose citizens do. It makes no sense to say "in general".

When Social Security starts to run out of money I could see them changing the law to allow only US citizens to collect, but under current rules your statement is false.

All legal residents of the US are eligible to collect when they meet the age requirements and other standard conditions, regardless of citizenship.

Noncitizens who leave the US after contributing to SS for 10 years are eligible to collect if they are a citizen of one of the eligible list of countries. See http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/10137.html

Switzerland was admitted to the Schengen Area in December 2008 and because of that it is required to support uniform Schengen visa issuance rules. I highly doubt you can enter Switzerland nowadays based solely on your green card (if your nationality is not otherwise eligible).

wow, I didn't know that. that's unfortunate for US green card holders. US citizens are allowed to visit Switzerland without visa for only short period of time, right?

There you go again.. Always a few lines to scare people. Be it speeding tickets and now SS benefits.
Did you ever hear of equal rights? This is one of the principles this country has been founded on. A PRL's rights include that of fair wage and right to labor without discrimination. Revoking someones right to services paid for in essence by the same individual isn't even debatable. Enjoy your 4th...
