Copies from your A-File

Does anybody know if you local field offices have digital copies of your a-file?

A little background...
My husband (US Citizen) has filed for divorce on me. I have been a stay at home mother for the 6 years we have been married.
He signed the affadavit of support agreeing to support me until I had fullfilled the requirements set out in the document.
He signed infront of the Officer in Sydney and then the I-864 was sealed ready for presentation to the Immigration officer when I was to arrive in the US.
The only copy I have is the one prior to the signature and notorizing.

I need to get a copy that has his signature on it, and I need it quickly as I don't have the ability to support myself with 2 small children. I have been out of the workforce all this time and need to retrain to start work again.

Does anybody have any suggestions on a QUICK way to get the copies so I can use them either in the divorce hearing OR present them to the Attorney Generals office for enforcement?

I really appreciate any help you can offer me. I am new here and please excuse me if I have made an errors with the asking of my questions.

thanks :)

The only way to obtain a copy of your A-file is by filing a FOIA/PA request by filling out this form: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-639.pdf

From what I've seen, it takes around 12-18 months to get a copy of your A-file. However, there are extenuating circumstances which may allow a particular request to be expedited. These circumstances are outlined in the instructions for form G-639 and may be viewed at the link I posted above.

The affadavit of support merely promises to repay the government for any means-tested benefits you may claim, should the government seek repayment. It is not a substitute for a support agreement in a divorce or separation.

As TRC stated, these documents would not serve you any good. The only obligate the sponsor to pay back the Government for any outlay they may have due to his non-support, not to pay you.

Thanks for your links!

The reason I am persuing is that my family law attorney and I read Sec. 213A. (a) Enforceability.

Here is a quote from within...

(
B) that is legally enforceable against the sponsor by the sponsored alien, the Federal Government, any State (or any political subdivision of such State) or by any other entity that provides any means-tested public benefit (as defined in subsection (e)), consistent with the provisions of this section.

The Attorney General shall enforce this paragraph under appropriate regulations.

(e) Jurisdiction.-An action to enforce an affidavit of support executed under subsection (a) may be brought against the sponsor in any appropriate court-

(1) by a sponsored alien, with respect to financial support; or

(2) by the appropriate entity of the Federal Government, a State or any political subdivision of a State, or by any other nongovernmental entity under subsection (b)(2), with respect to reimbursement.

If anybody is interested here is the link to the information in its complete form.
