I am not sure what these guys were doing on the 4th of July. My 1st time US passport was issued on July 4th!
Now I am in the I13+I485 process. WE got married last week in Vegas :)

I'm from Vienna, but my ancestry is also from Niederoesterreich (Weinviertel) ... a good friend of mine is from Dobersberg, not far from Waidhofen, he's their local tennis star! I thought emigrating to the US for someone from Vienna was daring, but someone emigrating from Waidhofen, now that's a big step! :) :p

I was only born there and lived there until age 6 or so. Then, we moved to Neufeld/Burgenland where I lived until age 23.. I went to school in Vienna and took the train on most days from and to Vienna. After I got married to my ex-wife, we moved to Vienna where we lived from 1994 - 1997.. Lived in the 9th district (Kolingasse 13) for a year and then in Simmering (Etrichstrasse 32) for 2 more years..
We moved to Florida in July 1997..
I always wanted to leave Europe as there's little opportunity to make something better than middle class from life... I don't like the european socialism and I've alsways had discussions with my co-workers about that. I was a capitalist mind in a socialist place... I could've never dreamed of the lifestyle and posessions that I have here in Florida when I was back in Austria even though I made good money for my age (was 26 when I left)..

GrandSportC3, whoa Burgenland to Florida is even more impressive than Waldviertel to Florida ... :p

Commuting from Burgenland to Vienna for school must have been tough. I grew up in Favoriten and in Floridsdorf, and moved here after high school. I lived most of my adult life here in Texas now so I can't tell what life would have been like there, but my family and friends certainly do live a more relaxed life with more vacation etc. in Austria. It might not be such a bad place to retire to some day in the future. Being an engineer, what brought me here is the more diverse and advanced technology. Funny that in my specific field, there are a few companies in Vienna who are world leaders in what they are doing (but not quite as well as the Texas company I work for, of course!). Plus, no midnight or Sunday grocery shopping in Austria!

The US is a weird place ... many people live well above middle class, but many also live in poverty. In Austria, it always seemed to me most everyone was middle class. So I think I've actually become more modest after I moved here. I drive a Honda Civic and live in a little 400 sq ft apartment. I believe many of my neighbors are undocumented immigrants. I found that many of the luxuries in life that this country offers, I can do without, because they are not interesting anymore now that I can afford them.

meaning

Can anyone tell me all the meanings of the short terms used within this portal. I know some but some I could get such as LUD . I will be glad to know from anyone that is ready to make a comment. Thanks

Never liked the commuting.. Gas prices were too high to drive by car every day, so the train was the best option.. It was a lot better after moving to Vienna. I came over at age 26. In my field (IT - mainframe development) there were plenty of jobs in the US and it was easy to get a work visa. Applied for a green card a few months later and got it in less than 3 years.

Well, I like the capitalism in this country. That's why I'm here. Socialism takes away money from the people who are working hard and gives it to a lot of people that don't which forces everyone into middle class.. That was one of the main reasons to move here. The US is the country of opportunity and everyone that tries hard enough can make something from their lives.. The opportunity is there and anyone, with any background can do it if they try hard enough..
