B1 visa duration, requirements

What is the max duration for B1 visa stay in US? we are looking at getting someone to work with one of our clients for 6 months, is this doable.

I have seen various requirements for B1 visa, is there a link to specific documentation we should be sending for this person to appear for a b1 visa

There is no provision for formal duration request. Its up to the visa officer they will grant depending what they deem appropriate for a given case.

B1 can be used only for attending meetings, conferences, training, knowledge transfer and the likes and performing "work" is something that is not legal but that is abused by many companies.
