I'm currently in the US on H2B status (extension). My mom
just got her citizenship and want to file for me (Massachusetts) so I can adjust my status to PR, how long would it take before my status is adjusted and how long before would I receive my EAD so I could continue working. Is there anyone here who have been through this or similar situation before? Please input on procedures, lets build an interesting thread.:)

If you're FB1 or FB3, several years.

I'm in H2B status I don't understand FB1 or FB3, please educate me

They are categories of Green Card applicants - FB1 is the unmarried child of a US citizen, FB3 is the married child of a US citizen. The visa bulletin available at travel.state.gov lists the time to wait before a visa number is available for an alien seeking admission under these categories. Depending on your country of birth (and whether you are married or not) the wait for a visa number (and therefore, the ability to file an I-485 and get an EAD) is between five and seventeen years.

wytel, how old are you? if you are 21 and older (unmarried or married), then you will be in FB1 or FB3 category, like RealCanadian said. It means that you will not be able to apply for adjustment of status for a long time.

If you are younger than 21 and unmarried, you are an immediate relative of a USC. You can file for AOS immediately.

seeing how H2B doesn't require a university diploma, it might just be that he is under 21....
