Any need for a lawyer for citizenship application?

Hi,

I don't see a reason to go to a lawyer for my citizenship application. Looks like it's simply about submitting the form, getting fingerprinted and going through the interview.

I'd appreciate some feedback on this. Has anyone used an attorney for their citizenship process?
 
If you have a straight forward case you can easily apply on your own with no lawyer.
If you have any questions you can search USCIS wesbite and/or post/search on this forum.
 
If you think your case is little complicated, like any arrest record or if you are not living with spouse (marriage based) for any reason or any other complicated thing that might need some explanation, then go with a lawyer. If it is just a straight forward case, no need to hire a lawyer. If you have questions on the N-400 form, you can always ask questions here. There is lot of information and applicants who will always give good advice.

Some have but most should not need one. If you give more information about your application it will help with better answers.

Are there any arrests, traffic tickets, Citations etc in your past?
Any convictions?
Any immigration issues or GC issues?
Filing under 3 year or 5 year?
If 3 year are you still happily married?

Give better information and get better answers.

Thank you for your response. It's a pretty straight forward case.

I've asked this question before but want to ask one more time. In Part 10/B, they ask about affiliations such as club, association memberships, etc.

Is it necessary to list memberships to any regular organization, club such as professional affiliations, art/music clubs, etc? This may sound really stupid but for some reason the question is really broad and open ended. It's easy to guess that USCIS is interested in questionable organizations not the types that I'm talking about but like I said, their vagueness makes one pause.
 
Traffic Tickets

Would traffic tickets constitute a problem? Yes, I do have traffic tickets in my past.

No need to list them to invite trouble for yourself. Even if you list an harmless origanization, the IO may not know what it is and request for more info then you get extra hassle.
 
What if the organisation is omitted and somehow USCIS knows the applicant is a member of it? What if the adjudicator asks they applicant why it was omitted? How should the applicant respond?

Give me an example.

After your case is approved, you go to COSTCO shopping, and you run into your IO who is also shopping there. He/she ask you:"So you are a memeber of COSTCO but you did not tell me so. I am going back to change my decision
now".

I think he is referring to a case where the IO notices the absence of Costco (or whatever) at the interview and asks the applicant why they didn't list it on the N-400.

WBH's "What if" #283:

What if you tell your IO you are a member of Wyoming Teamster's Federation but use the abbreviation instead? Will IO be offended and deny application?
 
Conclusion

So am I to draw the conclusion that memberships such as professional organizations, Costco, LA Fitness membership are to be left out of the application form?

I am not sure, but I took it to mean anything I pay a Monthly or annual subscription to for membership. I listed them all. I do not see it as a big deal to do so. I was more interested in declaring everything rather than risk denial over not declaring something. :)

Forget about Costco, etc, but if you were part of organisation like IEEE (even as a student member) you could include that.
 
I don't think they were thinking of Costco and LAFitness when they framed that question. One might as well mention membership in AARP in that case. AARP, by the way, would be American Association of Retarded Persons....(with apologies to the real AARP). To summarize, heavyweights like NRA, KKK should be mentioned.....local fooseball clubs are not in the same league.
