5 years EAD (New Development)

Hello! Do you mind if I ask whether you received a notice of action? I sent my I-765 and a fee waiver on August 9, but I haven't heard back yet.
Hey, I received a notice in the mail 10 days after sending the documents. Did you create an online account? Sometimes you can find updates there, before receiving them in the mail

Thank you for your response. I have an account and I don't see the new case there. It's been more than a month and I'm anxious that my case is lost somehow.

This morning, I called USCIS to report that there was an obvious tech issue or that my case was lost. I wonder if it helped. Just now, I received a notification that an action was taken on my case. My renewal application finally appeared on my profile. It says that my case was received and the notice was sent on August 12. However, I haven't received anything by mail.

Btw, good news, everyone. Now we can apply for a fee waver online.

After how many days (after you sent the application) did you receive the card?

I received my new 5-year card
My final timeline:
Aug 9: Sent all my documents by mail with a fee waiver. I didn't receive any notice, and my case didn’t show up on my profile for 5 weeks. I actually thought my case was lost.
Sep 16: My case appeared on my profile, stating that my documents were received on Aug 12. I also called USCIS that same day. I wonder if that helped.
Sep 18: I got a notification that my I-765 had been approved.
Sep 24: The new card was delivered.
I also received a notice by mail (it wasn’t on my online profile) that my fee waiver was approved on Sep 16.

Awesome! I have one question though. When your case appeared on the website what was your estimated time on myProgress tab? Mine keeps changing from 3 to 2 months back and forth. And it’s been like that for 4 months lol

Common sense change. I'm sure USCIS is 'tired' of charging those renewal fees. This should have been done a long time ago.

@hokage , @Glancesk , @Abhatti - To get status on my EAD application, I was chatting online... Tried to chat with them & got option of live agent too but when i provide my email ID it disconnects...happening repeatedly...Anyone Had you such experience?

Friends, I am a member of ASAP (asylum seeker advocacy project). They recently sent out this message, maybe some people will find it useful.

Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election, and will become the president of the United States on January 20, 2025. The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) believes that asylum seekers should consider taking the following steps before January 2025:

  1. Apply for your first work permit if you are eligible, even if you do not plan to work.
  2. Apply to renew your work permit if you have a two-year work permit that will expire before 2028.
  3. Consider applying for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in addition to asylum, if you are eligible.
  4. Consider applying for another immigration status in addition to asylum, if you are eligible.
  5. Sign up for free ASAP membership to get urgent immigration updates.

1. Apply for your first work permit now!

If your asylum application has been pending for 150 days and you have not yet applied for your first work permit, apply now! We recommend applying for your first work permit even if you and your family members (including children) are not planning to work right now. Initial work permits for asylum seekers are processed within 30 days and are valid for 5 years. And it is free to apply for your first work permit as an asylum seeker!

Work permits have many benefits, even if you do not plan to work. A work permit can be very useful as a form of government photo identification. For example, you can use a work permit to travel by airplane within the United States. You can also use a work permit to apply for a driver’s license. And when you apply for a work permit, you can also apply for a Social Security Number.

Generally, asylum seekers can apply for their first work permit 150 days after their asylum application is received by the U.S. government. An asylum seeker’s spouse or children can also apply for work permits, if they are included in the asylum application or if they have their own asylum application.

2. Renew your work permit now if you have a two-year work permit that will expire before 2028!
If you are an asylum seeker with a work permit that is valid for two years and has an expiration date before 2028, renew your work permit now! If you have a 5-year work permit that will expire in 2028 or 2029, there is no need to renew now.

In October 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) started giving asylum seekers work permits that are valid for 5 years, instead of 2 years. USCIS is still issuing 5-year work permits today. However, after January 20, 2025, we do not know what the new president will decide to do about the length of work permits for asylum seekers.

If you have a 2-year work permit, ASAP recommends applying to renew your work permit now if you can. This is so that you have the best chance of receiving a 5 year work permit, before the new president can make any changes. And even if you do not receive your 5 year work permit before the new president makes changes, it may be helpful to have a work permit application already pending. For example, certain policy changes might only apply to people who apply after the changes are announced.

You can apply to renew now, even if your work permit’s expiration date is more than 6 months in the future.
