5 years EAD (New Development)

Your case is weird. You said you didn't receive your EAD for 540 grace period and it will be expired in June 2024. How did you apply for the 5 year EAD while you've been still in 540 days grace period without your EAD in hand?! Obviously, there is no way to apply for new EAD while it will be expired in 10 months! I'm still waiting for 540 days EAD for a year and I only have the receipt that they received my application!
So, 540 days extension is a "grace" period, until we get our actual new renewed EAD card

The purpose of extension period actually is to have some breathing space (too much load on system) so it can have sometime to actually issue the card,

USCIS by all means will have to issue the renewed before end of that 540 extension expires. Now this could be on day 1 of before end of day 540,

In my case, my 540 extension was till June 2024 but they issued me renewed EAD card in Oct 2023 (9 months before expiry of extension)

The receipt that you got is itself a proof of 540 days extension (starting from the day your old EAD will expire).

As for the new 5 year EAD, its not me .... its a new rule for everyone .... all new EADs which will be issued "after" october 1st 2023 will have 5 years validity (even for those who applied before and are waiting with 540 days extension receipt)

Received my 5 year valid EAD card last evening
So the card i received had an error "Fingerprints not available" on bottom right

Thats weird and for the very 1st time, i have my wife and kids with me and their new EAD card dont mention of no missing finger prints

we actually did our fingerprints the moment we filed our asylum case (all of us), plus this is our renewal EAD card, our old 1st time was all good and contained our finger prints

I reached out to EMMA (thats virtual bot on USCIS page) and got linked to a live agent

here is what he advised me

"If you received an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with an error on it, and you can establish that the error was the fault of USCIS, then you do not need to submit a new Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization. You will need to submit the following information to the National Benefit Center or to the service center that approved your latest Form I-765: A letter explaining the card error; Include any supporting documents of the correct information with proof of USCIS' error; and Send the original EAD that has the error(s). In most cases, the corrected card can be created from existing biometric data. If new biometric data is needed, you will be mailed a notice scheduling you for an appointment to go to an Application Support Center (ASC) to have your fingerprint, photo and signature taken"

So i emailed to my service center on same , and now waiting for their reply to see what they have to say

The approval receipt says "EAD card is being mailed separately and the receipt mentions Validity date From and To in it

The auto extension is a grace period that everyone got this time. This means applicants will get their EAD card before expiration of that 540 days period, any moment

Once you get that, the 540 auto extension grace period ends and actual EAD period starts
Thats great!! Appreciate your information! :)
So, 5 year period starts on the date when 540 days end?

Also, MY EAD is expiring Sep 2024, when should i apply for the renewal?

540 days is an extension and new EAD will be received during that 540 days period.
The moment new EAD is issued, 540 day extension will stop and new EAD time will start .... in my case my 540 day extension was endling in June 2024 but i got mine in oct 2023 , so i have 5 years till oct 2028

Did you got it corrected?
Followed up with USCIS website and through inbox mail message in myuscis

The process is to write a letter to EAD issuing center , (Texas Service Center in my case), I will have to attach proof that my finger prints were taken and mistake is at USCIS end.

If mistake proves to be on USCIS end, they will correct it and issue me a new EAD card with correction

If mistake is at my end, i will have to pay fee for new card

so, 5 years duration starts once received.

MY EAD is expiring Sep 2024, when the Earliest should i apply for the renewal?...Any idea pls?

I am assuming you already have 540 days extension... Right ?

In that case, you don't have to worry about renewal, you will get your new EAD "before" expiration of sep 2024

But if you have a valid EAD ( no 540 days extension) then you will be eligible to apply for EAD renewal 6 months before expiration ... That would be April 2024 I guess (count 180 days )

New EAD will still be 5 years validity

Hey, It's been a year that I am waiting for my (540 days extension EAD) and as you said now they will issue 5 years EAD. Is there anyway I can contact USCIS to get it earlier? I really need it for my job. It's still pending on USCIS side.:( How can I push them to issue the EAD ASAP?

Yes

Try USCIS website ... Click contact us and go for chat / Emma and then look for live agent

And explain the situation

Its my first renewal. So, I guess I can apply 6 months in advance...right?

Yup .... 180 days / 6 months before your expiration

i usually prepare my papers in advance and then mail them out exactly 1 day before 180 days , so USCIS receives them exactly on next day

There is also a new option of renewing online through MYUSCIS.GOV account

The only problem is applying online means mandatory fee payment. A lot of people fall in low income and while they renew their EAD, they also apply to waive off the renewal fee, which means they will have to produce evidence of being in low income (tax returns etc )

This can't happen if one is renewing online

Finally I can share my timeline for EAD renewal based on asylum (I renewed 2 months before applying for I-485):

January 24, 2024 Card Was Delivered To Me By The Post Office
January 20, 2024 We mailed your new card your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, directly to the address you gave us.
January 10, 2024 We approved your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.
January 8, 2024 We ordered your new card.
July 18, 2023 We received your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

Valid for 5 years, my last EAD ever!

That's the EAD card timeline. It's a renewal.
I didn't do it online.
Printed out the form online and send them to the address provided.
The cost for me was $410.

Guys, please help. My EAD status has been stuck on " under review by uscis" since july 2023. Has this happened to anyone? and when will this review end?

400$

It can be waived if certain criteria is met, like annual income is low in guidance with Federal Poverty

But to apply for fee waiver, EAD application has to go through mail / paper
