Alien, just on the basis of two packages you should not come to conclusion. All my chinese friends, as well as me too, used diy packages and got our cases approved. But ofcourse, I did not buy from above mentioned companies.

Your chances are high because your qulaifications are high, attorneys have to do nothing with it. Who can know you or present your credentials better than you can do yourself. Attorneys will charge money, if your case gets approved he will take credit if it gets rejected he will just wash...

I would suggest you to do self filing. Your qualifications are excellent. If you can write so many papers in peer reviewed international journals, why can not you write a strong covering letter.

(1) Since you are doing self filing, I would suggest ask your references to send their letters to your home. In the office, some of those letters may get misplaced. But remember, all these letters should be addressed to USCIS only and not to you. (2) for self petition you do not need official...

These are probably the reasons why people prefer to do self petitioning. Hiring an incompetent attorney may be more of a pain than help. I was also screwed by an attorney. But ofcourse there are good attorneys also.

You should definitely appeal. At the same time prepare a fresh petiton also. Since you are MD as well as Ph.D. you may have good chance for NIW also. If your employer agree you can apply under EB1-OR category also. This time arrange things nicely, you will definitely succeed. You may get lot of...

Jelly, Don't loose heart. Still you have sufficient time in your H1 to try out other options. If your employer is willing you may try for EB1-OR or otherwise give a trial for EB1. INS is really unpredictive, luck also matters. Explore all avenues, you may also do self petitioning.

You can consider Rajiv Khanna or Murty. If you want to do self petitioing than DIY Kits may be quite useful for you.

For my case I used DIY kit of GCFY. I found that quite useful. I also bought one kit from greencardapply.com but their reference letters were not very impressive.
