What india-usa said is correct. One can re-validate visa in USA in the same visa category, but not B2(B1) to H1B. One has to go to Home country or third country like Canada or Mexico. But the problem with Canada/Mexico is if visa is denied, you can not come back to USA.

I believe you should be able to file for your son also as he is well below to be independent, as long as your son is in USA. If he is not in USA, I believe you may not file for him. Why don't you call INS 800 customer service and find out if you can file for your son also. Another...
