It would be better to go with off-white instead of white. The image needs to be sharp and for contrast with the background, the background needs to be non-white (off-white). I had sent my photos (off-white) taken at Walgreens. It worked just fine. Just make sure you insist on non-white...
ashokvihar,
I have not seen such an acknowledgment before. May be it's a new procedure as part of some streamlining (my hope) the CGNY is doing. At least, it is some relief to know that your application is under consideration. At least they are saying in the email that if the application is...
Yes, I got my PP back with the U-Visa without any issues. I would like add some comments to sam012007's comments. (see below in blue italics)
1) If you get MO from your bank, it would be free - my bank charged me $3, if your bank did not then good for you.
2) If you don't have that, you may get...
You need to send $20 for return postage for your stamped PP + OCI booklet after your OCI is granted when you send in your original US PP for stamping. My personal suggestion (and what I did) would be to not send any more money (to avoid any mixups at the consulate) than the $275 application fee...
Today, at 4 pm I received my PP stamped with the U visa sticker along with the OCI card via ExpressMail
It appears that CGNY takes around 7 working days to mail it out. I sent my PP + $20 M.O (mailing fee) + cover letter + print out of online status on 09/09/10, recd by CGNY on 09/10/10. They...
Here is my time line-(Note: I obtained the SC first and then applied for OCI)
OCI application mailed on July 6th 2010 - Express mail. Reached consulate on July 7th 2010.
OCI Acknowledgment date: August 02, 2010
Photo/Signature Scanned On 09-AUG-2010
Registration Status Granted On...
soKrazzy4,
I am waiting for my OCI to reach the Consulate. My date is the same as yours. I am thinking of sending an email (phone call - I would not bother), although from recent experience I would not expect any response just as you have experienced. I hope somebody who has been successfully...
JP,
Can you please tell me what you sent as the mailing postage? Did you send an return envelope itself (doesn't seem correct to me) or just the mailing label with MO for postage? I may need do the same for a couple of things:
1). Getting my OCI card from the NY consulate (that is, when it...
gradhak, since June is awhile ago and even though the USANIXXXXX number is a unique number, who knows for sure how the whole OCI process works internally. There is no priority and such with the applications. The way I have understood it is that the applications get processed as and when they are...
JP, like you say, it is better to err on the side of caution and send two sets. If it makes sense to you, this is how I interpret the document list.
Set 1: Original form +it's photocopy + photocopy of documents mentioned in the instructions.
Set 2: Same as above.
Cover letter.
Separate Money...
JP, back in June, for SC, I submitted a copy of my NC as well, since it was mentioned as a required document in the application form and notarized the application too. The NC copy and notarization are the only differences I see.
gradhak, I am not aware of any time limit. At least, I have not come across any such information. You could get some clarification regarding that emailing Dr. Shetty at "shettybn@nic.in".
Go to "https://passport.gov.in/oci/OnlineOCIRegistrationG.jsp", at the bottom of the page is a button "Re-Print Form". This will take you to the duplicate forms page where you enter your online reference number (eg. USANIXXXXXX) and your DOB and a duplicate application will be printed out.
gradhak,
Good for you that the SC arrived just in time. You can just include a self-attested photo-copy of the SC with each set of the application. No need to fill in the online application again. No need to send the original unless the consulate/embassy specifically indicates so. I applied for...
Thanks rajeshbhagwat.
I am going to send B/W photocopies to be on the safer side of not breaking any regulations w.r.t to making color copies of the NC and PP. I just wanted to avoid any delays in my OCI processing in the event CGI said they required a more recognizable (facial) copy in the...
hi,
I am going to apply for OCI at the New York consulate. Are we required to send color photocopies of the Naturalization certificate, US passport and Indian passport or the driver license or just Black-and-White photocopies are fine?
Thanks
Diamonds,
Congrats.
Yes, you can go without an InfoPass appointment. I got my stamping done two days ago (I had an appt). I assume you would be going to the JFK building, Boston. When I was over there, I heard an employee telling an applicant that walk-ins are permitted but the person should...
Thank you very much, MD RockVille.
No, there was no change at all in the message or the date. It still showed the first FP date of June 23, 2003 even after my FP2 on Sept 25, 2004.

Hi folks,
Any idea as to how many days it takes to get a reply for a I-485 status enquiry?
I initiated the status enquiry on Oct 27. I called up the National Service Center and the rep I spoke with said that if I don't get a reply in 30 days, I should call again on Nov 27.
