Yes, the immigration officer took my I-94, she told me I-94 is no longer needed to enter or leave the country.
I double check with my lawyer, I got the same feedback.

Did you send any special letter to USCIS to attach your wife's case to yours? I am just curious because I added my spouse case (my ND: April 2003) in late Dec 2003, for some reasons my case got approved but my spouse's case is still pending.

I asked my lawyer the same question. My husband has two pending I-485. I have included him in my I-485 application, and two weeks ago, his company has filled a new I-485 for him.
My lawyer told me it's fine, his company can keep his current process going until the I-485 through me is approved.
I have my passport stamped on Feb 05, I am still waiting for the plastic card.
