Do I need a Re-entry permit?

I have my passport stamped on Feb 05, I am still waiting for the plastic card.
I am planning to visit my home country for two weeks, do I need a Re-entry permit to return to the country? What kind of documents do I need?

If you have a re-entry permit, do you still need GC to enter USA?

If not, maybe it is a good idea to get one as a backup in case
you lose one.

For the people who never worry about losing GC outside USA,

Bad idea. You need to obtain re-entry only when you really need it. Otherwise, don't apply for it. Keep in kind, it's very easy to get first re-entry permit and it's valid for only two years. It's not so easy to get 2nd re-entry permit and many times they get denied. If you obtain a re-entry permit unnecessarily now, in future (after two years) when you will really need it you may end up not having one.
 
I travelled outside the country with the GC stamped in my passport and I was gone longer (6 wks). Didn't have any trouble at immigration on my way back. So, enjoy your trip and return with a :)
