Ya, I haven't been here that much lately and I guess that now that we have our cards, I might be away for 5 years or so until the citizenship stage (if we're still in the US) :).
Just to clarify, the "DUI" incident was during a Friday night spot check -- they were pulling over...
Are most people planning to carry their green cards with them at all times?

I'm kinda worried about losing the card if I keep it in my wallet (and I can probably count on the kids losing theirs within a week...). I was thinking of just carrying a photocopy with me...
I think 10 years is standard. Our expiration dates are slightly more than 10 years after our approval date. e.g. I was approved on 12/16/2004 but the card expires on 01/19/2015 (maybe its tied to the actual manufacture of the card). The "resident since" date is the approval date (12/16/2004)...
Afaik, COBRA is discounted in that you get the same rate that the employer was paying (which is probably somewhat lower than you can get on your own).

My card was mailed a few days ago. I expect it could show up today. My wife's card was mailed today. Our online status was updated for each change (card ordered, card mailed with a few LUD changes prior to the card ordered message)...
At worst, you may need to file a new LCA (Labor Condition Agreement) for the H1B. I was in the same boat as you and we filed one but I moved over 1200 miles. It seems possible that you may need to file one even for a 6 mile move just to update the company's address but you'd have to ask a lawyer...

I'm pretty sure you can try, as long as you have your approval notice etc. Things might be different at different locations though...
I think they suggest that you arrive about 15 minutes early in general. They also apparently won't let you in much before your appointment time.
