Hi folks,
My friend is a landed Canadian resident and was working on an H1 visa in the US. His company laid him off yesterday. If his company revokes his H1 visa, is he out of status ? Or does being a Canadian PR help him stay in legal status in the US ? (I know that a landed PR needs a...
Hi:
Thanks much. A couple of followup questions-
What steps does one have to take (like filling IRS form W8BEN or anything similar?) to avoid being taxed by both the US and Canada, specially for income earned while in the US ? I maybe living and earning in the US for sometime and then...
Does anyone know if it's possible for a landed canadian PR (citizen of India) to be able to trade stocks on the US markets ?
Can he/she keep his US brokerage account after moving to Canada or does it have to be converted to a canadian equivalent (for instance E*trade canada in place of...

For Satish
Hi Satish:
I just read this thread and I must say I'm really happy that guys like you go out of their way to make selfless efforts at helping others. I had a tough time trying to get a simple address in Canada for my PR card. Had to plead with people who I didn't even know...
Thanks !
Thanks bhand11683,
Whew, that gives me a lot of relief !
Actually I should have been more clear. I am not a resident of the US(I'm on H1B) , but a landed PR of Canada. Still no problem I hope ?
Thanks...
Hello:
A lot of people have strongly suggested on this forum that driving as a permanent resident from US to Canada is ok only if the rental car has Canadian plates, otherwise it could be a problem.
I am a landed resident and I plan to travel (with my PR card) from Buffalo to Toronto in 2...

Or am I the only sad, lonely soul ? :(
I plan to drive up there, hang around and check out the desi happenings (15th august) in that area, maybe even the non-desi ones....so if anyone has any ideas for enjoyment or is outgoing enough to join up, just post here....
thank you.
Thanks...from what I've read so far, No...you don't have to maintain a min balance. but I guess it pays to show more while landing, as vault said, at least above the estimated min. requirement for an individual/dependents, as the case may be.....
though I'm still not clear about the...
Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
So I guess, it doesn't really matter if I declare less while landing and then bring in more later (as long as I declare amounts more than CDN$10k to customs) ?? If anyone knows if there is some special advantage to declaring MORE while landing, then please...
Hi folks,
Thanks for your help on this forum. I look forward to your advice:
I plan to land in Vancouver in a week's time. I'm working on the goods-to-follow list and getting cashier's checks for settlement funds.
My concerns are:
1) From a tax point of view, is it good to show more...
I have questions about the amount of funds that one declares at the time of landing :
I plan to declare "X" amount at the time of landing, open a bank account and deposit this money at that time. After that, I plan to travel out of Canada for a year, finish up some pending matters and then...
