DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

@Sm1smom today we went into the field office and were able to talk to someone. The person didn't really say much. We told her about the deadline being next week. She said that she can't see anything about the case but asked us for a copy of the notice with the case number. She took it for a while and she came back and said that she gave a copy of the case receipts to her officer. I asked if that was the officer handling my case and she stated that she gave it to her supervising officer. She said that if there's anything that they need from us, they will call the phone number that is attached to the case from when we filed.

She didn't really seem to want to hear much about the actual case details or anything. Rather she just took our I-485 NOA, made copies of them and gave them to the supervising officer.

1. Do you think that is at least a decent result that she said she gave the case notice to the supervisor?
2. Do you think it's worth attempting another walk in if we don't hear anything and if so, at what point would that be?
1. I think the fact you were allowed in to speak with someone who took down the details of your case and passed the info on to a supervisor is a good outcome of the walk-in visit. It is a good reminder to them about the upcoming FY deadline.

2. Another walk-in attempt by Friday wouldn't be a bad idea.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and the remaining folks in this forum who are still waiting on case adjudication.

What day would you recommend trying another walk in assuming no update? Thursday morning or Friday morning, or even earlier?

Thanks.

"By Friday" - give them time to act on your visit from today. Remember, the delay is due to pending background check based on what you reported as the update provided to your congressional inquiry, it is not a situation of your FO not being aware of your case. Going in everyday will make no difference for as long as the background check clearance is pending.

Another walk-in attempt wouldn't hurt.

There's no other effective follow-up option I know of that has not yet been shared.
I just received an update "New Card Is Being Produced." Cannot explain how happy I am. Thanks to everyone who helps with the functioning of this forum, especially Mom.

Just to make sure, I do not need to inform my school about anything and they will update my status automatically, right?

Will update the tracking sheet momentarily.

Congratulations. Your school will not automatically update your status, USCIS will not inform your school. It is your responsibility to inform them. However, I'll caution you wait until after you've received your physical GC before informing your school of your new status - this is very important as you do not want them to prematurely terminate your status in SEVIS.

I just received an update: "new card is being produced." I am really happy and immensely thankful to this platform. Thank you, @Sm1smom, for the guidance and information. @Britsimon, thank you for mentioning this platform on your videos. This is immensely appreciated.

I received the RFE on 09/08/2025 to send an I-864 form.
I responded by sending it via FedEx, and it was delivered (09/10/2025), but I did not hear any receipt update from them.
I therefore decided to request a congressional inquiry on September 15, 2025.
On 09/16/2025, I requested that USCIS expedite my case by calling the contact center, which was then forwarded to my field office.
09/18/2025 I received an update on my status stating, "We sent you a request for initial evidence." Now, here is where I started panicking since I was expecting an update to indicate receipt of the I-864 that I had already sent or an interview notice. I immediately thought something was wrong, and maybe the update alluded to the fact that they might not have received the I-864 I sent.
09/22/2025 I arrived at the field office at 8:35 am and was able to speak to the supervisor. The supervisor took my RFE notice and asked me to wait. After waiting for about 30 minutes, the supervisor returned and informed me that they received the RFE and that I would get a notice in a couple of days. A few hours later, my status changed to new card is being produced.

However, even with 6 days remaining, my case is not yet done!!! I am still pursuing an FTJ (I-824), which I filed concurrently with the I-485, and the derivative already submitted the DS-260.
1. How should I proceed from here?
2. The case status for the I-824 has never changed since the update that "the case was received". Should this change for the FTJ to progress?

Hi Mom!
My case status still didn’t update after interview on sep 18. I still didn’t received notices. What can i do now for expedite this process? Contact center doesn’t see any updates, even doesn’t see that i had an interview. Should i try to visit FO this week (Wednesday) to speek with supervisor ? As i see, they order card at first and only after that they approve cases and the approve can take a few days what I don’t have now. Wait for your recommendations. Thank you!

It will be a miracle if the FTJ succeeds considering there's only 6 working days left in the FY.
1. Reach out to your congress person about the FTJ.
2. Not necessarily, the update may simply be after the I-824 has been approved. In the interim, reach out to your applicable US embassy to inform them about the FTJ, they may be able to further guide you on what they need in order for your derivatives to get interviewed and approved on/by EOD 9/30.

The good news is you have been approved. Worst case scenario, you sponsor your derivatives.

Contact center agents see exactly what you're able to see by yourself when you check your case online. Since the FOs typically do not update case status for DV based AOS applications until after case adjudication, it makes sense for the agents to not see any status update about you having completed your interview. Yes, a walk-in visit wouldn't hurt at this point.

I will update on the FTJ.

Should i ask over there a supervisor ? And what sentences can help me in communication with him? Because they always say same phrases like “we have 30/60 days for this, wait a few weeks, etc” Thank you!

You’ll need to use your discretion based on how the conversation goes to figure out if you should request for a supervisor or not. Explain the need for your case to be adjudicated on or before Sept. 30th since you will no longer be eligible once your applicable FY is over.

The truth is even after providing that explanation, they can still rightly tell you they have 60 days to adjudicate your case after the interview and that you’re still within the normal processing timeframe. They’re not obligated to adjudicate before the end of the FY, but they always try their best if the case is approvable.

Hi mom,
In regards to the ftj case, my spouse got a feedback from the embassy, they said that kcc should send the case file to the embassy for them to interview my derivatives.... i tried to call kcc, but i couldnt get through, so i emailed them.......... the response was that i enquire with uscis..
i noticed its a different person who responded, and also the message was different from the initial one....the previous guy advised that the embassy should initiate the process for them to send the case....
This is abit confusing, please advice, considering the amount of time it takes to even get a response?

Your number one problem is the fact that you did not fill out the DS-260 form, so there's nothing for KCC to send to the embassy in the first place, as in you never formally informed KCC your family will be processing FTJ. The usual step for FTJ is as follows:
1. You fill out and submit the DS260 form(s) for yourself and your derivative(s).
2. When you have successfully completed the AOS process, USCIS forwards both your AOS and KCC files (the KCC file would have been received by your FO from the KCC prior to your AOS approval) to the embassy with jurisdiction over your derivatives' primary residence.
3. The embassy schedules your derivatives for the CP interview (if the embassy has the capacity to do so).

Seeing as you did not submit the DS260 forms to inform the KCC of your family's plan to process FTJ, , nor file the I-824 to instruct USCIS to forward your case file following your AOS approval to the embassy, I do not know what else you can do at this point for your derivatives to be treated as FTJ.

You have a lawyer that was helping you, the question is what does the lawyer think you should do at this point?

We went to the interview today, and at the end the IO ordered the card production. Thank you all, specially @Sm1smom for your tireless dedication and help. To those who are still waiting, please remain hopeful.
Congratulations and thanks for the update. Curious to know how the actual interview went this time around. Any reference to the previous filing?

in the previous communication with kcc, they enquired about my derivatives and their dv payments

Hi Mom and everyone,

I did not actively post in the forum but have been a keen follower of the content, posts, and the spreadsheet. My status just got updated to New Card Is Being Produced. I can't tell you how happy I am. Thank you so much for the help and I wish everyone remaining waiting to hear back the best of luck. If there are any questions by the moderators I am happy to respond in a single post so its recorded. The spreadsheet is updated with all the current information I have.

That does not replace the requirement to have submitted the DS260 form since that is the form used for filing for an immigrant visa through CP. It is not unusual for KCC to have requested DV payment for you and your derivatives, even though they're not processing AOS with you. And that payment cannot be used for CP by the way, as your derivatives will still need to make the payment at the embassy if they get scheduled for an interview. It is not about previous communication with KCC, it is about you not doing what you should have done in the first place.

Again, what does your lawyer say about this situation?
