DV 2025 AOS (Adjustment of Status) Process Only

Hello Forum Members,

I am seeking advice on the Adjustment of Status (AOS) process for my family under the Diversity Visa (DV) program. My Father is principle applicant and I'm their derivative beneficiary, just turned 21 on feb 2. From what I've seen online I'm protected by the CSPA. But my main concern is that I'm already in the USA under F1 visa, have maintained a valid status so far.. Our DV case number is expected to become current in March 2025. My question is that I would like to file for AOS here in the States without having to go back to my home country for an interview. Can this be done ? What do my parents have to provide or say in the interview ?

I would appreciate any advice in this situation. Thank you
Hello all,
I had filed the AOS and finally my case was approved yesterday. Appreciate all your help and I wanted to share my Diversity Visa Adjustment of Status journey. Hopefully this timeline and case helps others who are in the same boat.

Background: My Father was the principle applicant and I'm their derivative beneficiary, just turned 21 on Feb 2nd. Was already here in the US under F1 visa, and have maintained valid status. I decided to apply for AOS instead of going back to my home country for CP with my parents.

- All of us filled and submitted DS-260 on May 2024
- Received 2NL on Jan 2025, and interview was scheduled for March 2025
- Parents visa was approved on March 2025 and they entered US on May 2025
- I paid the DV administrative fee for myself on May 19, 2025. The check was cashed on May 28,2025, got the receipt/cover letter back on June 10.
-Sent the AOS package on June 20 and then received the I-797C notice on July 2.
- Received ASC(biometric) appointment notice on July 14, appointment was set for July 24.
- Got a call from the USCIS office on Aug 25, officer told me that they were going to schedule me for an interview and I should bring my parents too.
- Got the interview notice letter on Sep 2nd, interview was scheduled for Sep 10. At the interview they told me their decision would be posted online and would take couple of days. However, few hrs after my interview when I check my case online it said "CARD was being Produced". On September 12 it was updated to "CASE was Approved" and approval notice was sent.

This whole process had been one rollercoaster ride, filled with anxiety and checking the case status online everyday, I would suggest everyone to file the papers as early as possible.

Hi Mom, as I said, I’m trying to apply again, even though the chances are low. I have some questions:

1) At the question “Have you previously applied for permanent residency while in the United States?” I need to put Yes, right?
2) In this new I-485 form, do I need to put the A-number assigned to me in the first I-485?
3) Where can I find my USCIS online account number?
4) Have you ever been denied a visa to the United States? What do I need to put?

Thanks!

1. Yes
2. Yes.
3. You have no USCIS online a/c number.
4. No.

What you received is a generic IL. You’ll notice a lot of the listed documents starts with “if” - meaning not everything on it is applicable to you.
Thank you for your response. Do you recommend walking in to the FO and asking for an earlier interview time?

Hi @Sm1smom, I'm a derivative (spouse) applicant on a valid F1 visa. My wife, the principal applicant, got her DV immigrant visa abroad, arrived in the States in late July, and received her green card in August. I submitted my AOS package in August and received my I-797C notice on September 3rd. I haven't received my biometric notice yet. I sent a congressional inquiry to my senator, and she responded that she is following up on my case. I have also called USCIS several times, but these agents always say that my case is in normal processing time, so I'll definitely receive my bio appointment. What do you suggest I should do at this point? Please, I really need help because time is ticking.

Q1. Should I do a walk-in for my biometric appointment at my FO tomorrow? I'm in Detroit.
Q2. Do you think i should send another congressional inquiry?

1. You cannot do a bio walk without the bio appointment being already scheduled.
2. You don’t need a congressional inquiry in order to get an update on your bio appointment - don’t waste that opportunity. If the bio appointment has been scheduled, you can obtain that information yourself directly by contacting EMMA. When next you contact them, stop asking about the case processing, ask if your bio appointment has been scheduled, and if they say YES, as them for the date, then go online and reschedule it yourself to an earlier date.

Alright, thank you

Hi,I had applied for asylum, but during this process, I was issued a green card and successfully received it. I applied to withdraw my asylum, but a long time passed and I have not received any notification. What should I do?

Nothing. You don’t need to do anything else.

Hi @Sm1smom, I did what you suggested yesterday. thank you very much, I have rescheduled my biometrics appointment from 10/02/2025 to 09/16/25 (tomorrow).
Just so you know (and going by your original bio appointment day), the Detroit FO (if that is indeed your FO, considering in an earlier post, you stated your FO was Chicago) has been a bit slow with DV based AOS applications. You'll need the stars to be in alignment for you in order for your case to be adjudicated on or by EOD Sept. 30th.

Initially, I thought of something different, that's why I mentioned Chicago, but I live in Detroit, so I guess that should be my FO. Also, when I received my ASC appointment notice today, the service center was listed as "NBC." Does that mean NBC is the one processing my case?

It goes there first, only for them to schedule your biometrics, then the case is transferred to your FO when your biometrics has been scheduled.

This means that your case is already at the FO.

There's an entire tab in the AOS spreadsheet that explains what NBC does in the context of DV AOS. It's called "NBC_LOCKBOX_FO"

You did say your IO provided you with a number for following up on your case at the end of your interview. Have you used that to follow up? I think you just need to continue being patient. However, if you like, you can initiate a congressional case inquiry assistance.

Yes she did, I later realized its the same number on the uscis website,
fortunately i have the number of the person who scheduled my interview, i dont know if they would be of help?

Hello mom,

1. Do you have an idea what this means? How can I be scheduled for an interview and be rejected before attending the interview?
2. What do you think I should do now?

Thanks
