Proudpal's Interview Experience

So, today was my citizenship interview. It was at 11:30 am.
I went to the Immigration office around 11:10 am.
I had 8 people ahead of me.
I was called for my interview around 11:50 (not bad..)..
The lady was nice and I was smiling and she said you look happy. I said of course since this could be the most important day in my life in the USA. She said we will see:)
Took me down to the office and there was another officer. She sounded familiar. Turns out that she was supervising the lady who called my name.
Simply asked me to Raise my hand and swear under oath to tell the truth. I did.
She went over my application asking me to confirm my answers to the Naturalization appliaction.
I told her I had a new baby girl and that I had another seasonal job. She was so happy when I gave her new updated pages where the changes on the application show. She even thanked me for it.
Then she asked me to show her my passoports to see if I left the USA since 2007.
After that she started the tests.
There were 10 civic questions. Once you answer 6 correctly, they stop.
Q1 : Where is the White House?
Q2 : Who makes laws in the USA?
Q3 : Who is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court ?
Q4 : Who wrote the Star-Spangled banner?
Q5 : Name the 2 parties in the USA?
Q6 : In what month is the new president inaugurated?

I answered all correctly so she did not ask the rest of quesiton.
Then she asked me to read a sentence in english.
I think it was "Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence"
Then she asked me to write a sentence. It was "I would like to become a citizen of the United States".
She then asked me to sign on 2 photos of mine.
Also sign the application and print my name.
After that, she said congratulations. But she said the are so busy and there is a backlog for Oath Ceremony. She said I should expect my Oath letter sometime in June, July or possibly August.
I thanked them both. Then I told the senior lady that I think she did my residency interview. She checked and she said I am right. She actually gave me my interview to become a resident of the United Stated 5 years ago. She said that was amazing to have same person twice.
Then she said that when I receive my Oath letter, I should bring any documentation listed in the paper and also if any changes happen (including offenses, traffic violations..etc) , I should bring them with me. Turns out that even on the Oath day they could reject your citizenship if you committed serious acts.:)

Oh and they did stress few questions about being a member of terrorist organization or if I plan to or know of plans to hurt americans. This question always amazes me but oh well..

So, I am almsot an American now...

So guys, good luck to all of you and hope you all get your interviews soon. For those who received their ILs, good luck.

One step left....OATH :)

Congrats, buddy! Did they ask you anything about traffic tickets?

aah..forgot this one..
When she went over the application, she mentioned the tickets but she said "We already have copies of the court's order to change the charge and your payment.."
So she mentioned it but did not ask about it really.

Congrats Proudpal! In the end you were right - this was one of the most important moments or 'day' in your life in the USA. :-)

Did you include the copy with your N-400 when you originally sent it, or did they dig it up themselves?

Oh well, another boring story from Proudpal.

I'm just kidding. Congratulation man!! This is awesome. One thing freaks my out, besides interview date for Vorpal, Lolali and BobSmyth is that they told you about OATH BACKLOG which is not really good. I think we have the same problem here in San Diego and it won't be a nice situation for my wife and I right now cuz' it is hard for both of us now a days.
Situation back home is getting harder everyday and I am really worried about the whole thing. I hope everything will be fine.

Vorpal, are you ready for the party or you are still not doing anything?

I heard that NYC DO retrogressed to May 28 with the latest update! I'll tell you what...when they start processing December 2006 applications, we'll party it up!

Seriously, though...all May 07 applicants I know have already taken their oaths several months ago. Any guesses as to what the deal with the retrogressed dates is?

They will retrogress until they hit July 4, 1776. When there are no more immigrants to add to the backlog they will begin to denaturalize US citizens.

I told them if there is a way to take Oath faster (to apply for my wife before her student visa status expire in June)..they say there is none. I must wait till the Oath and then submit the application for her with a copy of the certificate.
So hang on Nimche..

Congrats Proudpal........... Hope you get your Oath letter soon.

NB: Its not been easy for me to adjust to being a US citizen.. lol................

Just knowing the fact that i am a US citizen, the feeling of a new beginning, as in where do i start, what do i need to do not to loss it, just mixed ambivalent feelings about it. As well as the feeling of inferiority { superiority} amongst friends/ co hort who has a student visa or Green card about being a Citizen. I guess it will take some time for it to sink in............

just being reaslistic

There is hardly anything that would make you lose it now. I guess the same laws would apply to a natural born US Citizen in terms of loss of Citizenship. And the only things I can think of are things like spying for a different government etc. Acts normal people would never engage in ,even the kinds that might have a criminal mind ,which I hope you do not have. Hey as to your inferiority/superiority feelings. YOU EARNED your citizenship, it is not something they give away at the next street corner you know. You are setting a great example for your friends in that they too can become citizens one day. I just became a citizen last weekend myself. To me it is like getting married. You are still the same person, but you feel just a tad different and mostly happy happy happy.:D

Thanks Jojo72 is guess i just have to adjust to things and enjoy what i have earned. i guess i have to start the filling process for my entire community.

Thanks...
