In addition to being a citizen, he or any joint sponsors that are willing to assist financially must have income that is at least 25% above the poverty line for his household size (counting you), or sufficient assets to offset the income requirement, and you must either be inside the US legally or outside the US towards the end of the process.

Also note that there is a backlog of about 9 years in the sibling category. So if he files the initial paperwork now, it's around 2019 or 2020 when you can immigrate.

I suggest you visit www.uscis.gov and start reading about all the many options available to immigrate.

You can be sponsored whether you are married or single, and that makes a difference as to when the visa number becomes available. It could take 9 years before USCIS informs you of visa availability. Here is the kicker, you are required to maintain a legal status in the US should you be here during the wait period, so that you can be eligible to apply for the green card. If you can't remain in a legal status in the US, then leave so that you can apply for green card when the visa number becomes available in 2019.
