A few of us are now citizen-voters. For the first time in my life I will be casting my ballot to choose the leader of my country.

With the election only ten days away, let us discuss.

I am for Obama, no question about it. He inspired me from the very beginning. I already voted by absentee ballot from London.

My vote is for Sarah Palin.

I don't like McCain. I do like Obama very much, but I don't like Biden at all. Biden was/is very hostile in his policy/thinking towards my orignial country, which is a US ally for almost 100 years.

My reason is simple. There's no excuse that the USA is one of the very few industrialized Western nations that hasn't had a femal head of state.

Strangely, all the women in my family are voting against Palin.... :(

This is a good question.

I came to this country almost 10 yrs ago with 2 ideas in my mind.

1- This is yhe country where if you work hard you'll succeed
2- This is the country where the system protects your rights.

Now 10 yrs later I lost my house, my savings, my salary, got scammed by an american company that went bankrupt and started again under a new name, etc..

Is a sad situation, leaders are strongly involved on this, and is not just me, the same is happening to millions families around.

So I think that politicians are exactly the same all around the world, there is no patriotism in any of these guys, just greed and power anxiety.

For us is going to be exactly the same with Obama or Mc Cain. No difference.

John Smith,

You should be ashamed of yourself, talking like that.

You came to US, lied to them, and got your asylum status.

Today, you are against amnesty to illegal alien who are like you were in the past.

Why don't you deport yourself?

I personally think it is absolutely unacceptable to generalize. If you or someone you know lied when getting their asyum, they should be deported. Also, If you or someone you know lied when getting their asyum, it says nothing of how John Smith received his asylum. Choose proper expressions!!!

People who I know are you and John Smith.

Personally I think is time for a change. The last eight years of the republican administration have put the USA almost at the level of a Third world country economically speaking. If we don't change directions and start making the good of the people our number 1 priority we will be heading onto an Abyss and an even more polarized country(if that is possible).

What makes you think that he lied?

Often times when people run out of arguments or have no arguments to support their statements in first place, they point fingers, attack the opponent verbally, etc. I am not concerned. I am pretty thick skinned. You always have to know who is worth and capable of serious argument and who is not. As Mark Twain said "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference".

Yaha12,

As an illegal alien and an asylee seeker, you should choose a position that is good for you.

Why do you agree with someone who is against amnesty for you and other people who are looking for a way to adjust their status in this country?

Why didn't you go to the countries that share borders with your homeland?

Why did you choose United States?

You are here to share the American Dream, in other words, you are an economic asylee, because you are here for better opportunities, not for political persecutions. Like you, the other illegal aliens are here for the same reasons and all of you should have the same opportunity to leave in this country indefinitely.

By the way, I wish you good luck for tomorrow.

Let's not engage in hyperbole. There's a VAST difference between America and any Third World nation.

If we don't change directions and start making the good of the people our number 1 priority we will be heading onto an Abyss and an even more polarized country(if that is possible).

America is a wonderful place if you are focused on your well-being. I think it's a fundamental error to shift the country in a direction where our well-being is the responsibility of someone else, or the government's. That's been tried by many other countries, and oddly enough few people want to emigrate there.

Before I begin, I would like to thank you for sober response. Now to the context of the said.

1.
Why do you agree with someone who is against amnesty for you and other people who are looking for a way to adjust their status in this country?
First of all, there is not a post in this thread by me that states, implies, or could somehow be taken to claim that I support something said by John Smith. Supporting him or not has nothing to do with the way you approach the argument. Allow me to remind you that it was you who called both me and John Smith liers in two different posts. I just think its a bit of a stretch to call someone a lier without knowing them, their situation, and their background. As to the issue, I think that the immigration system in the United States is completely broken. It is extremely family oriented, whereas I would love to see it more talent and professional oriented. Look up some Silicone Valley companies and you will see that they are having a terrible time bringing talent from India, China, Russia or elsewhere because of restrictions. Do you see how this could impede economic prosperity? At the same time the immigration system is flooded with numerous petitions for family reunions and adjustments of status for spouses. Please, dont get me wrong, I do think that family is important, but most likely a pair of elderly parents who dont speak English will not contribute much to the welfare of the U.S. Indeed, they will probably consume some.

2.
Why didn't you go to the countries that share borders with your homeland?
I initially intended to state that its none of your business. However, I changed my mind and lets just say that countries that border my home country are similar if not worse. Once again, you dont know the situation. At the present moment, I am not ready to put it out yet. When I decide to blog out my life experiences including those that forced me to ask for a political asylum in the United States, I will be sure that you are the first person I inform.

3.
Why did you choose United States?
See answer 2. Also, there is only a handful of english speaking countries on this planet and thus it really narrowed my options. Having some friends to help you out in the beginning eliminated everything but the United States.

4.
You are here to share the American Dream
You are completely right. I would just like to mention that my vision of American Dream could be substantially different from that of yours or even John Smith's.

5.
in other words, you are an economical asylee
Completely disagree. I am chiefly a political and philosophical asylee. I dont mean to sound corny but it just so happens that I am asking for asylum in this country.

6.
all of you should have the same opportunity to leave in this country indefinitely
This is arguable. It has been argued. It is beeing argued. It will be argued. For reference, check out the failure of Bush's administration as well as a couple previous ones to address this problem.

P.S.
By the way, I wish you good luck for tomorrow.
I could only guess your intonation and stress when I read this. However, if you are sincere, I thank you.

If the only reason you are voting for her is that she has a vagina then it is a sad state of affairs for the US. You have joined the ignorant masses that are voting for her for the same reason. She is the epitome of an anti-feminist. She will do everything to eliminate Roe v. Wade which will send the feminist movement back 100 years. How ironic it is that you will be voting for a woman since you think it will advance women's rights when your candidate will only be detrimental to your cause. The women in your family are VERY VERY smart.

your respond is full of anger, rage, and negativeness

all i did is , expressing my political view about the democratic candidate,

it seems to me that you dont understand that we live in a democracy,

people have the right to express their opinions without fear of persecution,

now, you have every right to disagree with me about my views in a professional manner and positive way,

on the contrary you acted like bully, you lost your temper, you were angry,

you used personal attacks, and you threw accusations all over the place

you made a fool of yourself, just calm down,

iam against amnesty because i belive in laws, people who broke the law and came here illegally should not be rewarded, I DON BELIVE ITS RIGHT THAT TAX PAYERS PAY FOR THOSE ILLEGAL WELFARE PROGRAMS,

I LIVE IN STATE OF CALIFORNIA, THE STATE IS ALREADY BANKRUPT, BECAUSE OF THE MASSIVE SPENDING ON ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

I CAME HERE LEGALLY , I WENT TO COLLEGE, I GRADUATED, I APPLIED FOR ASYLUM, I WENT THROUGH PROCESS, I DID NOT BROKE THE LAWS

DONT TRY TO COMPARE ME AND OTHER FORUM MEMBERS WITH THOSE ILLEGALS

BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR TEMPER AGAIN, TAKE A DEEP BREATH, AND THINK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH
