Hi I`m new here so I thought that I say hi to all and give a comment about the reasons why would someone love to immigrate to US.
Well, when it comes to me, I want to immigrate because I want a change in my life, and am ready for it.
In my country where I live, most then 48% of our population is unemployed because or country is to much corrupted and they don`t want to help the people here. I wanted to study German language here, but they din`t want to accept me on the college because my parents don`t know somebody on the college who they must pay a lot of money just that they accept me. And the most funny thing is I`ve grown in Germany and lived there for almost 9 years, and can speak better they language then my own motherlanguage, and still they didn`t wanted to accept me on the college.

You can`t find a job here. I was even ready to clean toilets but NO, they don`t want to accept you because you need someone to get you or better say to buy you the job.

So that`s one of my biggest reasons I want to go to America, because you have at least a chance to find a job and it doesn`t mather what kind of job it is. I want that my future children don`t have to suffer like I used to suffer.

So where do you come from? Or where do you live at this moment? I live in Belgium and i have several reasons to come over. One thing is also a change in my live. But the main reasons or also government related.

Why don't you go back to Germany? If you already speak the language it'll be easier for you.

but i think any develloped country is good for him with his actual status. Things are different for me, I have a good job and I am living a good life thanks GOD, but still want to get back to US because I taste the honey. When you taste the honey , you want to keep tasting

An American Diploma in itself is not an automatic passport to the good life the US can offer. Countless number of American graduates, 'born and bred' in the US are languishing in the unemployment market as well. Below are some articles to ponder over:

Are there non American college graduates excelling in their chosen profession in the US? Absolutely. Tonnes of them!! The caveat here is that such people did not become successful overnight. The United States rewards hard work, period! Coming to the US as an immigrant, you've got to be willing to start from the bottom of your profession, if you have to. You've got to be willing to work extra hard and don't be lulled into a delusional dream of easy life. It pays to be smart!

Of course, I'm not discounting US College education. It's a good idea for immigrants coming to explore adding a US degree to whatever they currently have, bottom line is: 'Knowledge is key'. One thing I would suggest though is to make sure you get your current degrees from your native country evaluated once you get to the US. This will save you jumping through major hoops when you decide to go to college. You should consider getting sealed copies of your transcripts from you native countries before departing for the US, especially if you're from a country where getting your college transcript is a big pain in the behind.

I lived in Boston for about a year... I saw poverty, I heard about college grad not finding jobs... Well, If you study geology, greeck, history... Of course you won't find a job easily but what about the 2% unemployement rate for newely grad engineer student?

Poverty... I saw poverty in boston suburb ...
Now I live in Montreal, who is in people's mind a heaven with few poor... Well guess what, I am seeing way more poverty than in the poor south boston suburb that I was (Brockton)...
I see people eating in the trash every single day not even in poor areas but also in downtown, the subway full with homeless (14% of montreal population is poor)... but u won't see it nowhere because it is good to bash on the US...

After leaving USA for canada, (I lived in london, belgium, France, usa & canada), the USA is the only place where i saw oportunities... If you're smart in usa, u succed (I know peoples who came to usa not even 20 years ago with nothing (they are hatians) who are now successfull business owner)... I didn't see that in canada nor frace, uk & belgium)
the key in usa iis smartness & hard work... Now am in canada & don't see it as a place where i can succed very well compared to the usa... I just can't wait to go back

Whilst I applaud your enthusiasm, I'm afraid I do not agree with your sentiment that there is no discrimination shown in the US towards people who want to work. There are many Canadians, for example, treated very poorly when they have genuine work offers in the US.

It would indeed be wonderful if there was NO discrimination, but alas, there is.

& not everyone wants to create their business, not everyone is entreprenor... You can bash the US as long as you want but fact is from the western world, USA is the place with the best oportunities followed by germany...
& from my understanding, you are just a negative person who wants to burst other people..."Don't create a business, it's too risky", "do not go to that place, it's too hard".... If most people though like you, then Yahoo, apple, facebook ect would have never existed (yahoo was created by an immigrant)... theire are "high chances of failing in your busness... just like theire are high chances of losing your jobs...

Depend about your expetations.
I can speak for montreal since i live there but not for canada as a whole...
One of the thing that irritate me the most about quebec is that to find a job, you have to know someone who can refer you to his/her bos... so for freshly arrive immigrant, life can be very hard, quebec is a place of contact, you have to know someone to praticaly do anything... Even to rent an appartment, you have to put someone name on the lease or else the only place you would rent are crappy appartement...


note : this reflect my view, not everyone view.

Safety/crime : Canada
salaries : USA hands down (exept for few jobs who pays more in canada, most high paying jobs are higher in usa)
Cost of living : usa hands down
Medical coverage : If you do not make 70k per year, then Canada, if you make more, both are good (canadians goes to usa to get threated)
education : top american universities are better than the canadian ones but more expensive
weather : USA by 157 879 232 147.12 miles
taxes : USA, average consumer taxes in usa is 6-7%, in canada it's 13% & everything is taxed in canada unlike usa thus cossing the crossboarder shopping
bills : usa... you can find good unlimited high speed internet in usa for just 25$, unlimited cell plan for 40$ nationwide... in canada, unlimited internet are only provided by very few companes in few selected areas & are slow... cost : 50$ for 5mbps...cell plan... only 2-3 companies have unlimited cell plans & they are only for one province, meaning, you can't call toronto if you are in montreal... cost : 25$ but you have to pay to have the caller number display (5$), pay for the voicemail & if you leave the city, you won'thave no signal
food : cheaper in usa
train/plane/bus ticket : usa
housing : buying a house in/near a large city in canada is freaking expensive. in usa, exeptfor new york, boston & san francisco, houses are cheap

I do not care about being discriminated, I've been discriminated against all my life (I am a black guy who grew up in france, one of the most discriminating place in europe)... If someone doesn't like me, then fine, I won't cry... I know what it is to not geting a job because i am black, to have your appartment request denied due to being black, getting refused at the club... I've been making my own LEGAL money since 2004 to not rely on employer too much... Do not think that because you lived in usa for 10 years that you know better... most of the people do not even know where they live... & you do not have to live in a place for 10 years to know it, It doen'st takes long to figure out a place... I lived in 5 different countries, so I know what I'm saying when I tells you that USA is the least discriminating country among thoses 5 ones.

For starters, no one here is bashing the United States as far as I can tell. About 90% of the people on this thread are interested in living in the country, it therefore makes no sense that any of those will engage in trash-talking. Personally, I don't believe in biting the finger that has feed/is feeding me. The bottom line of what every other person is saying is the fact that it is wrong for anyone to make a blanket statement that there is no discrimination in the US.

Since we're into giving pedigrees, I guess I can say having lived in Canada myself for 12 years (6 years in Vancouver and 6 years in Calgary), a couple of years before that in London, and the past 5 years in the US, I do recognize discrimination when I see one. There's no country on earth where discrimination is not being practiced, it's simply a matter of the form it takes and the way and manner in which its being practiced. There is as much poverty in the US as there is in Canada. I spend a greater part of my time helping out at the homeless shelters in both country, and I've shed a couple of tears for and with those people. While in Canada, I had a high paying job and saw countless number of black people in positions of authority within the organizations that they worked for. Having said that, I have to add that it is also in Canada that an immigrant will struggle for a long time before getting a decent job simply because he/she has no "Canadian experience"

Nobody is advocating for people to sit on their butts and shed tears as a result of being discriminated against. People are simply trying to provide useful insight for others (especially those who have never been to the country), so you really ought to stop with your personal attacks. It would be better appreciated if you simply gave your opinion based on your personal experience.

And like I mentioned in an earlier post, an immigrant with a 'Yes I Can' attitude will go places. A willingness to do twice as much as others are willing to do will lead to success eventually. Above all, you have to be smart, engage your mind and see endless possibilities on the horizon.

Relax man you seem to have so much anger and hate within you. Maybe that's also the reason why you were discriminated. You don't have anything to prove us.
