When we get A # (Alien number)

A # is not Visa number it is Alien number like your SSN, when you get A 3 all records about you can be checked in BCIS computer system with you’re A #

I hope Approved I-140 does not have A# because Visa number is given by NVS and A# is not Visa #

I-485 receipt will have the A# because it is not Visa number it is Alien number for you, it is not visa number, in AOS the visa number is assigned to you when you go for temporary GC stamp.

For CP the Visa number is given after interview for immigrant visa after the interview and they get visa # from DOS or NVS

I guess I confused you by using the wrong name. Just change visa to A. You dont have a visa to get a visa # and you get a visa when the immigrant petition is approved.

Its like SSN in that you get a unique # from BCIS and looks like you get a unique number in their database.

And yes, you can get this in an approved I-140

That's odd. I never got my A# until my I-485 was received. As a Canadian citizen, visa numbers are always available to me (we've never been oversubscribed like India/Chna).

one gets A # on I-485 filing receipt not on approved I-140 (employment based category) once you get A # it is like SSN for the life, all your immigration info will be in BCIS computer with your A# once they check with A# they know about your name, DOB, SSN and all your applications approved or pending with BCIS are linked, that A# will be on your EAD, AP , I-485 approval and GC
