When to start the process I-485

Ok so If I had lived in US under the L1 visa for 4 years and a half is it a good time to start the green card process and fill the I-485 ? Also, Do I need to do this for me and my spouse under the L2 ?.

No problem with the kids as they are citizens and the main reason of my interest in the green card as I don't want to cut their opportunities just because I have to go back

---Before you file the I-485 US employer should file LC for you and LC must be approved and then Employer has to File I-140 for you and once I-140 gets approved and your PD is current (PD is the date LC is filed with DOL) then only you can file I-485. if LC and I-140are filed for you then your Spouse can file Derivate I-485 when you file your I-485.
Also, Do I need to do this for me and my spouse under the L2 ?.

Thanks, and What if Employeer won't file anything? is there anyway to do all the process bymyself ( me and my lawyer) ?

If you are qualified for EB1 Extraordinary ability then you can file I-140 directly and later I-485 once I-140 gets approved. Search Google for “Green Card through Extra Ordinary Ability”
 
Thanks Ginnu. :). I'll ask my lawyer about that I just wanted to be informed before starting the whole process or even decide if I want to start it :). And your answers have been helpful. Thanks.

Being here on an L1, Brina would probably qualify for a green card under the EB1 multinational manager category, which would make the LC unnecessary.

A good time to start it would have been when you arrived in the US 4 and a half years ago. Why did you wait so long?

I didn't use the word "definitely", and I'll leave it up to the OP and his/her company to figure out if he/she qualifies for a green card in that category. Just bringing up the fact that the LC may be unnecessary.

Not so sure about your "vast majority" assertion either.

why I waited? well I like the Country but I wasn't in love with it until I had kids and saw their possibilities here :) and would hate myself I they loose something they deserve because their mom pulled them out of the country just because she didn't make the effort to stay
