Now that I have a greencard I am trying to explore what are its benefits.

Aside from being able to enter the country without visa and being able to change any job without work visa, what are the other benefits?

Can I get a better home load now?

Can I sponsor my brother sister parents from my home country now?

anything else that with benefit me as a greencard holder?

You can go to certain US neighbouring countries without the requirement of visa. Canada and the countries in the carribean to name a few.

I believe you can also claim unemployment and qualify for any Social Security or Welfare benefits provided all the prerequisites have been satisfied.

As far as sponsoring is concerned, you will have to check the visa bulletin and look into the waiting times.

Stoned!

Are you sure?
I mean if someone is a greencard holder and loses job,... can he claim unemployment benefits?

What are the requirements for it?

Most states require that the worker be willing and able (without getting a visa) to work to get UI from that state, so foreign temporary workers cannot collect UI, since their status expires with the lay-off. Now, Cdns on temp visas (TN, H1)can go back to canada and collect from their former state of employment, but it does require moving back to canada.

If you have a GC however, you are considered immediately able to work, and can collect UI if otherwise eligible.

Social security BENEFITS are not based on GC, althougn medicare, for example, does require legal US residence (or at least the legal right to US residence) that comes with GC or citizenship.

Not all of them; J-2, L-2 and E-2 spouses immediately spring to mind, as do EAD holders.

Indeed, the comparison was being made between temporary work visa and green card.

The statuses you mention are not work-dependant.

Those who live in northern states usually benefit from GC more compared to those living in the southern states.

You can get a good medical insurance if you are going to get one your own. Some companies simply refuse to give medical insurance if you are not a GC Holder or US citizen. Some may require at least past 2 years physical presense in USA.
