Weird experience at DMV

Please if you dont mind can you tell me why they changed it to 'temporary admission for permanent residence'..

This explains why they gave you problems when you went to DMV

Because this is the proof the USCIS gives after someone is approved for permanent residence and before the USCIS can make the green card.

Thanks, i did not know that but does that mean you need a NP before they issue it to you or you dont need a NP.

No, NP is not needed (nor should you have one).

14K Susha, did the director call you back?

What do you mean "nor should you have one"? Shefe was talking about the issuance of the temporray stamp ; and many people have NP's when they get that stamp. Why the "nor should you have one?" . Clarify please?

You can have it stamped in your NP, or have it stamped on a I-94 card and have it as a proof of your permanent residence. It's basically a temporary green card.

Of course he didn't, he is just one of those shysters. I'll follow up on Monday, believe me.

I would not let this go. I would be calling the governor's office Monday morning. :) :)

Good luck as you pursue this.

DMV employee are probably some of the laziest people employed by any agency in the good USA.

I am not being politically correct but this is how I feel.

I went through hell to get that d@mn DL....

KSUSHA....do not let this slip through.

There was no need for 2 troopers to be there to escort you out....that is just overeacting.
You WERE ENTITLED to speak to a supervisor and hear another opinion.
There's no justification for them.

GUYS...I am having terrible problems with getting an Unrestricted SS card.
I never got that I-94 because I was not educated on immigration issues back then and had no idea it was so important.
That I-94 is just one of the reuirements for an un SS anyways.
I have the EAD A5 and the IJ letter.
They will just not issue me one.

What should I do?
Who should I talk to...I don't want to waste 170$ every year.

Thankful, Fremanmo and all you aother....please advice.

Kshusha...let us know how it goes.

kalvar
Schedule an infopass and find out how you can get your I-94. It should not be complicated.

There is a special form for I-94 you need to fill out and a fee to pay. Was your asylum approved? If so, you are entitled to I-94 that says 'Asylum granted. Employment authorized..etc'. The SS office will accpet this card and give you an unrestricted SS. The sooner you are apply for I-94 the better. It's a pretty powerful document...well...not in my case though!

The IJ letter (original) should be enough for the SSA. So is the A05 work permit (is it expired?).

They are denying that the EAD A5 and the IJ letter should be enough.
They only want to hear about the I-94.

I don't want to waste more money on EADs....but no one in that d@mn SS bulding wants to hear my arguments.

It's writen black on whote and they still don't care about it.

What do you guys suggest on doing?

I am being processed for my GC and USCIS said that it's against the law for them to issue an I-94 while being processed for the GC.

I have tried everything.

Kalvar:
Where are you located? If its close-by, take a trip to the Boston area and go to the SSA office in downtown Boston. Bring copies of what you have, and if that is not enough, they will check with CIS to verify your status.

Hey, I feel your pain I was finally able to apply for unrestricted card after trying for a long time. But this time they told me that they heve to verify with CIS about my asylum. It's been about 20 days now and I'm still waiting for my unrestricted card.Good thing that I had a job before trying to get my new card. You know that SS people will take your restricted card away from you right? So, if you are just planning to get a job do it before you go to SS office. I've been trying to call SS office all morning but it's just like calling CIS, you can never get the right person.

FLOYD

I am located in central florida....too far from Boston.
Do they issue an unrestriced SS card without that I-94 there?
On their website it says that the IJ letter or the EAD A5 should be enough.
These morons here refuse to abide by their own rules.

kalvar,
i had a similar problem with ssa in the nearby city, which would not remove the restriction from an asylee's ss. i took that asylee the same day to a bigger ss office in a major city, and there were no questions asked. sometimes it just depends on whom you speak to. go to a different office and try again, otherwise i would suggest applying for a replacement I-94.

Yes, IJ letter was enough (sort of). I don't have an I-94, and because my asylum was granted by an IJ, my status does not show up on SSA computers. So one idiot turned my down at a small office--she completely ignored my asylum approval order (which in my case looks like a cheap fake).

Went to the Boston office, and the woman there got mad at her colleague. She told me she needs to verify my status with CIS, and if it checks out, I'd get a clean card in 6 weeks.

Got the card in 4 weeks.

What makes things worse is that the SS doesn't even answer their phone calls.
What is wrong with these state agencies?

I think I am slowly turning in an enemy of big governemnt.
Private companies treat you with respect and promptness.
I will try to get the card in Miami guys....and let you know how it goes.

14K Susha, did the director call you back?

I met with the director today. The rep who I sent me away with state troopers was there too. I had print outs from their website and all the documents I had last time. The director and the rep acknowledged that their website does not make it clear but I-94s are considered by this MVA out-of-country documents (!!!!) But in my case 'they realize that I have plenty of other documents from the list and they will gladly accept them all and give me my MD driver's license'. They were so desperate to cover their a...ses, I was really amused. I told them that the reason I came was not to get the MD DL which I know I am entitled to. I came for an apology and reassurance that this agency will review their training and customer service standards. I also wanted to know who is behind the decision of making an I-94 form an "out of country document". I noted that this is obviously a document issued by Federal Gt and by not accepting it as a primary document, they violating the fedral regulations.

They still didn't apologize. The director was getting very defensive because he could not give me answers to any of the above questions. I noticed that the rep was aiding him in explaining the documents I brought. He kept telling me that I was being aggresive and there must have been a reason why the rep came back with sate troopers. I said "Could it be the reason that I simply exercised my rights? Or may be she realized she had made a mistake? Or may be I was forceful and refused to give up and this establishment is not used to it?' He kept rambling on that she was following the procedures. I got up and said they were wasting my time and they would hear from me. Got their business cards and left with my head held high!
