Hi,
I receieved my fingerprinting appt for August 27th, I walked in to Columbus, OH office for fingerprinting this morning and they said they no longer accept walk-in. Is this true? Are there standard hours for walk in fingerprinting???

Thank you all!!!

Well, when i got my letter, it was scheduled for 08/16/2010 but I went the next day which was 07/30/2010 and I had no problem. i didn't even have to say anything but presented the letter when they asked for it and asked me if I had an appointment and I said "no". Before I went for the walk-in I called USCIS to ask about walk-ins, they said I can go if I wanted but that the no longer have walk-in hours for biometrics but I can still go in to see if I can get it done in the absence of a lot of work to do. She said the worst they could tell me is no and that I can try again and hope to encounter someone else who may be willing to go ahead and get it done. So it is all about discretion, I urge you to try again.
Was it packed or empty at the ASC when you got there?

The USCIS call center agents can't speak for specific DO policies as each ASC has their own set of rules. Some ASCs flatly refuse early walk ins, no matter how many times you try. What works at the Alexandria ASC may not hold true at the Columbus ASC.

It depends from office to office and person to person. Some accept and some turn people away. Go on your regular date.

Jayoya, Hope you change your opinion now. Based on your advice some one will waste time, money and effort and go to ASC and is refused finger printing. Your experience is your own and may not make it fit all cases.

I understand but you also have to understand that all ASCs are federal agencies under a blanket policy but some also have local policies. And besides the local policies there is also "discretion", not everyone you encounter at ASCs will grant or deny you a walk-in fingerprint. If you see it as a waste to try walk-ins then nobody will ever attempt walk-ins ever again. But if you understand what I mean above then you will give it a shot and try again if the initial attempt fails to get to a better person on a better day. As I said, you first have to understand that there are many things that are subject to discretion when dealing with USCIS or even consulates in general. If that was me, I will go on another day to another person because I'm just not a quitter which is why I was able to come to this country otherwise I would have given up at initial tries. My opinion still stands gallantly.

Considering that going in early to take care of the FPs doesn't speed up a case, I would recommend not stressing out about it and just showing up on the day of the appointment.

Of course, it is not something to stress about. Its merely something to take care of if only you feel you can just to get it out of the way. But if you can't then ther's no choice anyway but to go as officially scheduled. At least right now I don't have to anticipate and expect any fingerprinting date anymore but just an interview letter, so it kind of gets one step off my shoulders early and puts the ball back in their court quickly. Its nothing to stress about, really.

Thank you all for your responses, there were about 4 people in line when I went.
Is there really no timeline difference when fingerprinting is done before the scheduled date?
My fingerprinting scheduled date is 8/27, which is 3 and half weeks away.

In Orlando, my daughter was able to have walk in, they said it depends on how busy they are. It worked out better for her, as she went on a day off, and didn't have to take extra time off work to go at the appointed time. However, I really don't think it had any effect on timeline, as it was way past her appointment date when her case was transferred for interview.

It seems to be allowed in some offices, and not in others.

vdostoi1,
I am planning to go for a walk-in. Did you have to give any specific reason (like out of town on scheduled date and show some supporting document like flight tickets) for being there early or there were no questions asked about it. Also, do you know if Newark has any specific days allotted for walk-ins?

Has anybody ever tried a walking FP in Durham,NC ASC? or Charlotte, NC ASC? How was your experience? Thank you.

Did a walk in today... Bronx,NY. My appointment date 8/20/10 . The guard just ask me for my letter & Green Card. Only 4 people were before me. The workers were very nice!:p

I did an early (week before) walk in 2 1/2 years ago in Charlotte on a Saturday since I couldn't make it to my originally scheduled FP. I got to the Charlotte ASC at around 11:00am and they asked me to return after 3:00pm since that is the quieter time of the day.

I work a couple of blocks from this location. Nothing try nothing done...hello! I have to help my mother.

I did early FP in different ASC. I was suppose to go Riverside CA but I went 2 weeks early at Buena Park/Brea CA.
