visiting mexico with GC only?

my question is:

if I try to enter by land only with GC will they make an issue out of it. I would not want to show my national passport...asylum issues... pls advise

When entering the US by land you are less likely to be asked for the passport, and a passport is not required if you have a green card. If they do ask for it, you have a valid reason for not having it.

This USCIS document shows the requirements to enter the US by land or sea, and for LPRs it shows the passport is not necessary if you have a physical green card.

it is so sad when people jump into judgments like the above poster, USA2002. I am not a fake asylee, at all. I wish I never had to be an asylee in the first place. But even if I was a fake one you have no business whatsoever judging others, especially when they are here asking for help and looking for reason in the ever changing immigration rules. so be kind or stay away.

and to answer to Jackolantern:

say I enter Mexico, use my old national passport, instead of paying another 400$ for RTD and waiting 6 months, then reenter presenting a GC only. The officer asked me how I entered Mexico in the first place - what then?
thx
just seeing if I can/may use my super old passport and avoid paying for RTD again.
does anyone know the website where one can see how long si currenlty the wait for RTD?
thx again

If the passport was not issued or renewed after you applied for asylum, using it shouldn't get you in trouble. Things are smoother if you don't use it or immigration doesn't know that you used it, but ultimately the mere fact that you used an old passport from the COP is not grounds for denying you admission or revoking your green card.

You are correct. I always advocate carrying passports just in case you meet a strict officer. Passports are the only travel documents that are accepted globally. Why not adhere to something global? :)

The GC alone is sufficient, although it is useful to show the passport to get it stamped.

Why not? Because the OP is an asylee, and an asylee using a passport of the COP can bring more trouble than it saves.

But since Mexico allows LPRs to enter from the US without a passport, he really should be fine by just showing his GC, right?
