Hi, I have a contraversial question for which i tried to find information from huge sources and could not find it.
If you marry a US citizen who is actively serving in US military how long it will take you to apply for naturaliztion if you hold conditional green card?
See the issue that US naturalization hand book says to get naturalized you should be permanent resident on the date of interview?
It is official information by USCIS. But is it true? I didnt find answer of it by USCIS itself.
So conditional residence and permanent residence is same for this purpose?
Please answer this question who have in depth knowledge about this.
I asked some immigration layers they didnt know about it and they told they do not do military naturalization!!!!!!

There is no difference between marrying a US Citizen or a US Citizen in the Armed Forces. My Husband is in the Army and the same conditions applied to me. 3 years based on marriage.

Adam1234,
If the US spouse is being posted outside the US and the GC holder spouse will accompnay him/her, then there is a provision for expedited citizenship for that GC holder.

Adam1234,
Normally you have to wait 3 years after getting your GC before you can apply for citizenship (based on marriage) by which time you will have had to remove the condition from your GC. However, if you are planning to use the expedited citizenship provision for a GC holder spouse accompanying a US military spouse posted outside the US that Triple Citizen mentioned, then the GC can be conditional. I just received my citizenship based on a similar provision after only having my conditional GC for 18 months. I received my conditional GC in May 2006, sent my N-400 in April 2007 and had my oath ceremony in November 2007. There are very specific conditions that you need to meet to qualify for expedited citizenship so research these carefully.

Hi

ok. But USCIS guide for naturalization says if you are spouse is US citizen who is in armed forces it just requires you should by permanent resident at the time of interview. It dosent say that you should be required to have permanent residence for 3 years.

It is Page 22 of us citizenship guide which can be downloaded from USCIS website.

so i really donot know about it

I think you may have missed the 'and' at the end of the section. It applies to all of the entries above it so this means you can only apply early if you are planning to join your spouse (the M-599 guide confirms this). The section says:

Are the spouse of a U.S. citizen who is one of the following:
• A member of the U.S. Armed Forces;
• An employee or an individual under contract to the U.S.
Government;
• An employee of an American institution of research
recognized by the Attorney General;
• An employee of an American-owned firm or corporation
engaged in the development of foreign trade and commerce
for the United States;
• An employee of a public international organization of which
the United States is a member by law or treaty; or
• A person who performs ministerial or priestly functions for a
religious denomination or an interdenominational
organization with a valid presence in the United States

and You will be proceeding to join your spouse whose work
abroad under orders of the qualifying employer will
continue for at least 1 year after the date you will be
naturalized. Form N-400 should be filed prior to departing

Thank you Jontymorgan. I thought it applies only to last issue. Now i think so cause no where else it is mentioned about that. So that is same as expedicted citizenship. Its is a great answer.

Hi, what is the procedure to apply US green card and naturalization if you marry a US citizen who is actively serving in US military but posted outside USA for more than 1 year? And if you marry him outside USA during him official service?

Work on getting the green card first before thinking about naturalization. How and when to proceed with naturalization will depend on how and where one has been living in the years after obtaining the green card.

Ask in the Family-based green card section of this web site.

After reading your post carefully I can say that your possibilities of obtaining citizenship after marring a person serving in the armed forces are close to nil. They will probably throw you in jail for this :)

I hope people get the joke in this ;)

Sigh :(

I think I made it abundantly clear in my post that I was joking. Marring means injuring or damaging, you wanted to write marrying. However, now I am not joking about this. I think people had already answered your question, but the more you write the more it looks to me like you are trying to game the system. I don't know the reason, it might be that you want to bring more relatives with you or just marry in order to gain immigration benefits. To be honest I don't care one way or the other. This is a volunteer board, sometimes people answer questions seriously, sometimes we use a bit of joking or even sarcasm to make the whole deal a bit lighter. I am sorry that you don't seem to have a sense of humor.

well. do not feel bad. You sound a very good person. See, i have respect for citizenship of all countries. I am thankful to people here coz i really cleared my doubt for which i didnt find answer anywhere. I just asked one more question which is just by couriosity. Finally i dont bother about citizenship any country in that matter. I am a businessman. See at present China and India has very good economical growth than any other. I really concentrated on these place. My most interest is in finace and not in citizenship. I dont think for me there is any advantage is there in this.
Any way i appreciate your concern. I think you have good sence of humor.
Please dont mind it
