US Citizen - No FP

I became a citizen on Jan 5, 2012.

Never received a FP letter, until today. The letter states that they need FPs to "consider" my application. I should go to the DO on Jan 17th to get my FPs taken otherwise my N-400 application will be considered abandoned...

I already have my naturalization certificate, have applied for passport, updated info @ SS office... any idea on what's going on? Suggestions?

So you took your oath and got your certificate? Looks like a big mix-up. I would schedule an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office ASAP and talk to an agent.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best of luck!

Several possibilities come to mind.

Did you file more than one N-400?

Someone could have made a mistake on an application and confused your info and theirs. This can happen mostly in family groups or in a lawyer or immigration help agency office among unrelated folks.

USCIS could have assigned the same A# to you and someone else with the same or similar name and DOB.

You could be the victim of ID theft and the thief has applied under your name.

Please update us when you sort it out.

Sounds like the OP already had valid fingerprints on file from a previous application. Since the oath date was last Thursday, it's not unlikely that the FPs expired as the OP was waiting for the oath date, and a new FP letter was generated.

Ignore that letter, you're a citizen now. They'll contact you again if they think they can do something about it.

But if you ever go to their office to try to sort this out, don't bring your natz. certificate or passport; they might try to take them away. Bring copies only (but bring another actual ID like your driver's license - they're unlikely to try to take that, and even if they did it's cheap and quick to replace).

Infopass Tomorrow - Will Post Outcome

I tried to resolve the issue over the phone: too long of a wait.
I will go to the DO tomorrow and will ask them to resolve the issue.
I do not have my certificate with me because I'm getting my passport. It should be back in the next 10 days.

I agree w/ the fact that I'm a citizen now, I was told so and have the documents to prove it. My first idea was to shred the letter, but I guess is better to find out what is this all about.

I don't think there is an issue w/ identity theft. I have a long, complex name, and an even more complex history ;) really doubt anyone could be trying to use my name for any purpose. Besides, I just came back from a trip to Europe and had no problems whatsoever going through immigration.

I'm the only applicant: no relatives applying w/ me.

Thank you for your feedback... :)

You just came back from a trip from Europe while your US passport application was pending? Or was this trip before your oath?

I came back 1 day before my interview/oath *same day oath ceremony*

I didn't make it to the infopass this morning because I locked myself out of my car... will have to re-schedule. Not concerned at all: whatever it is, I think it won't have any effect on my citizenship.

Will keep you posted. It seems no one else has the same situation.

Yep, definitely keep us posted. This is indeed a very interesting case and most likely will be resolved quickly. Best of luck!

I reapplied second time for naturalization on November 18th 2011. On December 21st my application was placed in line for interview skipping FPs. Since I'm reapplying second time they might not need FPs since I had my FP done August 2011 as part of my first application. USCIS customer service told that it was valid for 12 months but they weren't sure and opened service request.

In your case, did you have FPs done in last 12 months?
