Urgent - lost my job - how do I postpone interview at local office?

I have an I-485 AOS interview (EB2 case with PD Sep 2000) at the Chicago local office on Dec 6 2005 - I lost my job yesterday and need time to find an offer letter in the next 30 days - if I'm not able to do that, does anyone how to go about postpoing the interview? Do I need to write to them or should I go for infopass? How much notice do they need? What is the typical time they postpone it for?
Any help will be appreciated - this is a pain because its not like I'll get a GC after the interview anyway (because of the retrogression in EB2 dates).

why don't you just go ahead with the interview? You are missing only one paycheck slip (or, if the pay day is monthly, you are missing no paycheck slip at all!) Keep cool, you will be OK.

Do not worry

Cool
Remember god and go ahead
Do not worry.
Normally they do not ask anything they just stamp passport.
Get certificate from any motel business owner that you are
contracting for him for making his web site.

Go with this certification.
I have taken feedback of lot of people and everybody said that
they just stamp passport.

One small question is your LUD and text in uscis website changed
that your case is sent to local office.

Good Luck

What about the Employer Letter?

Unfortunately this is an AC-21 case - even if it weren't, I would still have to produce a company letterhead offer. Also I'm not getting my passport stamped anyhow because of the retrogression in EB-2 category to Nov 99 (my PD is Sep 2000).
Let me know if you guys have any ideas - thanks for your responses.

Desi Company

try to get help from any desi company... You can find contracting jobs with Desi companies easily... and they can give you offer letter in the format you want...what is ur profile ... I have some openings in my place too...BTW I dont work for any Desi company....

find out friends who have companies, should be easy to get one from them

worst case look up employers corners for people offering jobs, give them a 1-2 k they will happily do it for you

And then what if they ask "are you still employed by the company on this paystub"?

Isn't there a number for the immigration office where you will interview, that you can call to postpone it?

i may be able to help

I have a few companies (friends of mine) who might help you out.
one of them is http://www.harwardtech.com/index1.html
They are in Chicago. If you like i can speak to them and explain your situation
If not we can look at some other companies who might help out.
Contact me via personal message and we can exchange contact info.

Please note - i have nothing personal to gain from this - im just trying to help you out so please dont think of me as some suspect desi company trying to take advantage.

Good Samaritan .. Harihoudini. I am relieved. May God Help you in need. Amen.

Thank you very much for the offer - unfortunately I am in the finance area with specialization in energy - I'm sure this would have been easier if i was in the IT field.
Any suggestions on supporting documentation for an interview postponement request? Is it a straighforward procedure? Should I do it through infopass?

Some other alternatives

I'm sorry i couldnt be of help.
BTW - i do have one more thought - If your relationship with your past employer is still good - why dont you offer to pay them some money (the amount required for your last paystub to show current employment).
You will obviously loose the amount that is deducted for taxes/SS/etc but they will still issue you a paycheck and some of the money back. You can use this to effectively show a current paystub at the time of your interview.

A similar thing happened to my friend in IT. His lawyer cited medical reasons for postponing the interview so my friend could gain additional time in getting a similar job. Check with your lawyer on whether a simple letter will suffice or if there's a form for this.

In any case, I would not recommend going for the interview and taking a risk (as others on this thread have indicated).

Good luck!

Go on leave

Ask ur company if they are willing to keep u employed without pay for a month. Say u r on vacation.

Illegal suggestions

Most of the suggestions here are illegal. The GC is for the job after you get the Green card. There may be serious legal implications if a GC is obtained fraudulently ............ so play it safe.

Totally agree with backroady.

Totally agree with backroady. Do not do anything illegal since it can come back to haunt you. Avoid all the offers of desi companies since you will paya pretty hefty price (not just monetarily) ... ... I have heard scary stories about how they hold you by your b***s for the favor.

As I indicated in my previous post, citing a medical reason for postponing the interview is probably unethical, but certianly not illegal.

Final word: Don't mean to scare you, but do not risk all these years of wait and hard work. Explore all possible options, weigh them and make the decision that you will never want to regret.

Good luck!

Cheers,
v99

Thank You...

for all your responses - I am quite sure I need to postpone my interview - unfortunately, I still don't have an answer to my original question, namely how to go about postponing an interview, what kind of reasons are usually acceptable, and what documentation could be provided to support such a reason.

Just send some one who is close to you to local immigration office. and tell them since you are not in US and because of some reasons you will not be there in US on that day. Then see what happens.

Send a copy of all documents and authorization letter along the request letter with him.

Offer Letter

I am still working on getting an offer in the next 8-10 days, and hoping that I won't have to postpone the interview.
Does the offer letter need to have a certain date by which I have to join? My paystubs from my previous company end on Nov 2 - any idea by when I need to file an H-1 transfer (is it 30 days?) to preserve my h-1 status as well (I am in my 7th year extension)

Don't postphone your interview, rescheduling it could take you several more years, and it is not worth your 7years' waiting. IT happened as my lawyer told me. See if you can have the employment verification letter from your previous employer, whatever you can do to get it.

Do you have EAD? Apply for it right away. I'll pray for you...

It is very risky to go with previous employer's letter. It is high chance interviewer asks if he is still employed by that company. Then whatever answer he made, his I485 is in danger.
If he answered yes, it is a lie.
If he answered no, his I485 will be likely denied.

Best option is postpone til securing the job.
