URGENT: FP walk-in question

Does anyone have any (finger printing related) information or experiences related to either:

i) Requesting FP postponement, and how long does it take for DO to reschedule, OR

ii) Requesting FP postponement, but then just doing a walk-in after the original FP date, but before the postponement is granted, OR

iii) NOT requesting FP postponement, but simply walking in for FP a few days later than the orginally scheduled date.

Anyone tried any of the above? There is a quite serious and complicated travel situation (multiple trips are required) arising for someone, and am trying to see if they can just do a walk-in after the original FP date. Meeting the original FP date is impossible.

Many thanks in advance for any information, tips or experiences!

Happy Easter!

The FP letter states clearly that if you are not able to make it on the said day, you can come back (walk in) any of the following weeks on the same day(of the week) and time. But you have an overall deadline (which is around 3 months), before which you have to complete the FP. Failing this your application would be dropped (considered abandoned)

Expect to wait anywhere from 30-60 days if you officially request a FP reschedule date by mail.
ii) Requesting FP postponement, but then just doing a walk-in after the original FP date, but before the postponement is granted,
If you request a FP reschedule by mail you'll have to submit your original FP notice. Without the orginal FP in hand you won't be able to do a walk in.
iii) NOT requesting FP postponement, but simply walking in for FP a few days later than the orginally scheduled date.
Many ASCs allow walk ins before or after your original date. Go to your ASC a few days before your appointment and they may be able to accommodate you. If you decide to do a walk in after the FP date, make sure not to wait too long since they may consider your application abandoned. Worst case scenario is that the ASC does not allow walk ins and request you reschedule by mail.

Thanks a lot all, for your inputs! kcpant, I had them read out their entire FP notice, and it does not have any mention of walk-ins. The only option provided is that of rescheduling, hence the dilemma. Maybe the options differ based on SC/DO?

It sounds like the thing to do here would be to first ask the ASC regarding their walk-in policy, as it relates to post-scheduled date walk-ins, and if doable, go that route. The attempt would be to keep the time gap under 2-3 weeks, the smaller the better. (A 'pre-scheduled date' walk-in is impossible due to the sudden situation, else they would have done that.)

If a post-date walk-in is not allowed by their ASC, then the only option would be to request rescheduling, and take it as it comes. A delay, although not desirable, would have to be accepted in that case.

Thanks again!

As far as I know you can just walk in to FP location and get your FP done. They really dont care.

Maybe DO specific (as others have mentioned). Because mine did. It gave me an initial date and clearly mentioned that I could come back any subsequent week. It mentioned the same day of the week and time as the original FP date. There was also a specific end date.

It's been previously confirmed in other posts that some DOs do not allow walk in FPs.( Dallas or Houston was used as an example).

Do you remember how much gap there was between the originally scheduled FP date and the end date?

Also, does an FP rescheduling request need to be made before the original FP date? I hope that as long as a rescheduling request is made within 1-2 weeks, the application would still be kept alive and not considered as abandoned. The person in question has had to leave the country, and can make this request only upon their return.

Thanks.

Almost 3 months (Orig 1/30, final date 4/24). In my view, get your letter on hand first. If it already has this "walk in clause", can the person not go after the scheduled day?
Also I have read posts in this forum where folks got their FP preponed (ofcouse they had thier letter) citing reasons like they would be out of town. In cases they took a infopass, spoke to the DO officer and go it preponed.

Actually, I had someone scan and email me that FP letter. In it, there is no mention of walk-in whatsoever.
Also, a preponed walk-in, even if allowed by the DO, is not possible, due to the urgent situation.

The only options are:
A) Post-date walk-in, if DO allows it, or

B) Send a rescheduling request. If they send the request now, they lose the original FP letter, since that has to be mailed with the request. Then they won't be able to even attempt a walk-in without the original letter.

The current thought is that they will attempt a walk-in approx 2 weeks after the orginally scheduled FP date. If they are not allowed, then a formal rescheduling request will be sent.

The only one concern is whether USCIS considers the N-400 as abandoned if they don't receive an FP rescheduling request within say 15 days.
A little bit sticky situation.

It takes more than 15 days to consider your application abandoned. Try doing a walk in 2 weeks if a pre walk in doesn't work.

Update

Upadte:

The post-date FP walk-in approach seemed to work. I got a detailed update from the people yesterday. Basically, they showed up yesterday at the ASC and presented their FP notice and told the receptionist that they had missed their original date due to some urgency. The receptionist was very nice and herself told them that a walk-in was fine. She also told them that a formal reschedule request could take a few months to be granted, and hence a walk-in was the way to go.

My recommendation would be to make a personal visit (or have someone go there) to your ASC and speak with them directly. That's the only authentic information one can depend on, regarding whether a particular ASC allows walk-ins or not.

Thanks for everyone's input!
