Turned Away at JFK due to RTD expiration date. Help!

well said Raziel.

WillH, it is totally up to u. we are just giving u suggestions that are solely based on our personal experiences. the decision is urs. i personally suggest u get the RTD. and i'm not saying this judgmentally or in a completely patronizing way (like the way jonny1 is expressing his advice, thank u very much!), i'm say it factually. u have to see what suits ur circumstances. i hope all of this helps. :)

RTD it is then. On a largely unrelated topic... anyone need a kidney? I have two:rolleyes:

how can you not know you should have about 6 months validity on any travel documents when you travel, be it RP ,RTD or NP?

Well at the airport they said two months and it varies by country. 6 months is a scary thought though. That means you basically pay 400 dollars for a document that is essentially only good for 5 months.

So what's the closest someone has traveled to their RTD expiration date? I feel like I should start a new thread for that!

<Sigh> I can not wait until May 22nd 2013.

If you travel a lot to countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary and Slovakia, then get the RTD. Otherwise, I'd say go for the RP. I went for one, and it is SUCH a relief that it's valid for 2 years. It's really made a HUGE difference.

well on my current financial state I will be lucky if I ever make it to Yonkers let alone Holland or Germany but having the option of having a passport like document to go to cool places in Europe without a visa with is just too tempting. If I am being honest, Europe is the only place I would want to go to without visa. I lived there as a child and miss it. All other places require advanced travel plans anyway and so getting a visa would not change things much. But a weekend trip to Paris here and there or Berlin... a dream!

So yeah RP is more sensible but then for the next two years I am stuck applying for visas to everywhere.

Hmm well Germany requires your passport to be valid 4 months so getting a RTD is a waste because you can only use it once/twice if you are lucky. All other countries you mentioned requires a visa and it takes at least 2 weeks to get it.

yeah it's all very confusing. Hey are you in the process of applying for your citizenship now?

wantmygcnow, none of those countries require visa for tourism and travel for US RTD holders. it is checked and confirmed. check the website of the relevant consulate.

He will face the same scenario with RP if he has only 2 months validity... so RP is not the solution.

he will get all the hussle in the world to get a visa in the RP.

you are still not using ur brain brother, who will travel out of the country with only 2 months validity on any travel documents, be it RP, RTD or NP?

I never said travel on RP which has only 2 months validity?
I said never travel on any travel documents that doesn't have 6 months validity.

I still don't understand why you are so not wise enough to not know that you need about 6 months validity on document when you want to travel out of the country?

seriously, take my advice, next time when you or any one of us travel out of the country, be sure your travel documents, whether it is RP or RTD, don't travel unless you have about 6 months validity period on your travel document. why? that is because it is a general requirement.

I dont think so. Only Germany doenst require a visa on a RTD & maybe Croatia? I am 100 percent sure Maybe you are confused beacuse of your nationality..it may not need a visa. Please post links from the consulate especially belgium because the last time I checked they take FP of every visa applicant.
