Turned Away at JFK due to RTD expiration date. Help!

be smart folks, be smart!!!!!!!!!!!

if you got GC, why apply and get RTD thats valid for one year only when you can apply for RP thats valid for 2 years.

with 2 years. you will have hassle free travel at airports.

just be smart so you don't have to go through what this person went through.

Johnny1, this is "This Person's" thread so please don't refer to "him" in the third person. Thank you very much. That's what the ticket agents at the airport were doing right in front of me and I had to really do some internal Yoga to stay calm and not say something to them about that :)

But here is the thing, As part of the great annoyance that comes with asylum, RTD has a horrible and short life span but an RP is not recognized by many countries and the ones that don't require a visa with RTD do with RP so it's a bit of catch 22, no? That said, the 2 year thing is nice. Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know what address should I use when requesting expedited processing? Is it the same NSC address or a different one? And do I turn in my old RTD since it's not technically expired yet?

We are still trying to catch up with your IQ... give us more time.

It is the same address include a letter explaining the expedition request with the application and write on the outside of the envelope "expedited" with big fonts.... and you should return the old one since it is not expired.

Thanks Raziel. Also, you said I should send my biometrics letter? I am looking on the instructions and it says to send I797C notice of action proving that I paid the fee. Is that still the bio letter or the original receipt?

I797C notice for the GC is the biometric letter... right?

When you applied for the GC, you received I797C notice by mail and you took it to the immigration center, and they stamped it and took your fingerprints... etc..

so send a copy of this I797C notice... some call it biometric letter... sorry for the confusion.

No there are several notices. First you get the receipt notice then when they want you to do your fingerprints and pic (biometrics) you get another letter.

Anyone else want to chime in? Or I could send both

Which is I797C notice !!!! Right?

so you the confuse by asking

you said I should send my biometrics letter? I am looking on the instructions and it says to send I797C notice of action proving that I paid the fee.

no one said anything about the receipt notice

I'm so sorry... you can send any notice.

I sent when i applied for my friends the biometric one. and they received the RTDs with no problem.

if you read it says
you must also submit a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence that you filed and paid the fee for the Form I-485

so it seems that you can send any I-797C

I just called USCIS and they said that my application would have to be pending if I want to get an RTD for free, otherwise, I have to pay the fee. I already have my green card so...

so I am now out 800 bucks for the ticket and almost 400 bucks for a document that is set to expire essentially nine months after I get it in my hand plus I have to buy another ticket if Delta won't refund or rebook me. I love this country.

Welcome to capitalism club. Once you learn what to do it is not as bad as it sounds. We will learn.

Mr. It is a stardard procedure for most of the countries that they require you to have a travel document, whether passport or not, that is valid for six months from the date of visa issuance. I think that You or Egyptian government should have known this. It is widely a understood procedure. And in the case of the airline, they just followed their rules....

It's really nice when the knife is twisted like that. Thanks for the support faysal. Now please feel free to move on and provide that special brand of kindness to someone else.

Thank you!

Yes people REALLY have to stop attacking posts here! It is so annoying. And I just love how the same people expect sympathy when they are in trouble themselves, regardless of whose fault it is!

I think we "common people" are the last to blame in this situation since the brainiac, that holds a diplomatic entity in Egyptian embassy and deals with visa requirements everyday, issued the visa on semi-expired RTD.

WillH doesn't have to know that the 6 months are required.

Thank you... Now has anyone ever applied for RTD after they were approved for a GC and didn't have to pay a fee or is that pretty much a done deal? And any more thoughts on RTD Vs. RP?

I think the answer to your first question is a disappointing one. As soon as you get your Green Card, that chance is over for you. Otherwise it will be too complicated for USCIS to go through each request and see who should be eligible and who shouldn't and what not. So yeah, i would say it is a done deal.

Answering your question, I would go with and RTD. Just because I seriously cannot deal with this whole visa drama anymore and more and more countries are signing contracts with US that allows US RTD holders to travel there visa free (below is the list). Plus RTD is widely recognized and respected than RP.

Belgium
Germany
Netherlands
Croatia
Macau (upon entry)
Montenegro (30 days)
Slovakia
Hungary

willh, be smart again, and next time apply for RP and stamp visa on it so you won't face this problem again.

how can you not know you should have about 6 months validity on any travel documents when you travel, be it RP ,RTD or NP?
please yaar, forget about free visa, get RP for 2 years and pay for visa and travel, hassle free.
