What is this all about ?

This excel program checks the status of a range of SRC numbers using the USCIS online status check facility and store the 485
numbers in the excelsheet for future checks of status changes.

The credit of first writing this ingenious VB/excel
macro goes to OFF_PATIENCE
And then other fellow forum members have modifed it since.

Individual Scan results have then been consolidated and stored in 1 common file - freedom_ver*.xls.

Please see the summary sheet to understand it.

How to Scan?
These are Instructions to run the macro for the 1st Time to scan a New SRC Range

1> Download the attached Excel file.

2> Inform here which date you are going to scan and make sure that you are not doing the scan for same date some one else is doing or has not done.

3> Before you run the macro check the security level of your Excel
file.
Security Level tab is found at (Tools menu, Macro
submenu, Security command).
The level cannot be at High, it should be changed to Medium
or Low.
Now you are ready to run the macro.

4> To run the macro you have to go to the menu at the top of the
screen and look for Tools,
then look for the submenu Macro and then Macros.
It will pop up a box titled Macro.
You can see 4 Macros listed (I485Scan, MakeChart, MultiScan & Sort485).
Select I485Scan and hit the Run button at the right.
Another box will pop up titled Excel.
There, you have to enter the first five digits corresponding to
the SRC range you want to check.
for eg - 01-001 and press OK.
Another box will pup up and enter the range of the last five
digits to check.
Start from 50000 to 51000 and go all the way to 56000.
Note - at a time, you can only scan for 1000 cases from the
same IP address before
'We are sorry' message. After that you have to change
your IP or wait for 24 hours
before you can scan again.
Important Note - When you try to scan more than
3 invalid SRCs, you get blocked as well.
So be wise in choosing the right range of SRC numbers.

5> The usual range starts from 50001-55999. Don't exceed 1000 at a time for a single IP address.

6> The macro will run and will show the results found.
It will create a excel sheet with SRC and write down only the
485 cases.

7> After your 1st run is complete, for next set of 1000 nos,
rename the excel sheet by double clicking on the excel sheet tab.
It will allow you to rename the sheet.
Then repeat step 4>.
After this scan is over combine the 2 results.
Repeat this until you have exhausted finding the date range
or you feel exhausted..

9> You can use proxy servers if you would like to scan more on the same day. You can get some proxies for free if you search internet eg:-
www.atomintersoft.com

To change proxy open internet explorer or other browser. Goto Menu
Tools..Internet options...Connections...Lan Settings...click Use proxy and then enter Ip address and port info say ok and repeat from step 4.

And don't forget to post your results here or add to the consolidated file.

1> Download the attached Zipped file.
The name of the zip file will be freedom_verxxx.zip
Use winzip to get a excel file all_cons.xls. Open this excel file. It may ask if you want to enable Macros.

2> Please take a look at the Members sheet which is the penultimate sheet. Check to see your id is listed in there as per your RD or not? If not, please add your id or post here and someone will update it.

3> Then take a look at the summary sheet. This summarizes about all the data created and then there is month-wise Approvals, RFEs, Transfers. ALso take a look at the no of approvals and the graphs below it.
It gives you a picture of of how TSC processing 485 cases, which months 485 it is currently processing etc.
Any Definite prediction based on this abt TSC is futile.
It just gives some idea.

4> If your particular SRC data or SRC number is not found in the data, then that is because the data has not been collected. You can help by collecting more data by following the instructions given in the 1st thread.

5> Or else you can help by Rescanning the data. The 'L' column tells us on what date this particular SRC was last scanned.

8> The macro will suspend calculations to the summary sheet, do the scan until it reaches a count of 990 and then stop, calculate the summary sheet.

9> After you run a Rescan, Rename the file to the next version number (freedom_verxxx.zip) and then zip and post the file here.

I am running into same problem as Pradha I guess. The file is not getting posted. Looks like there is some problem.
Can everyone delete their old postings probabaly that is not the cause but still.
In the meanwhile next person can continue scanning from 02-090 and we can then add it later to the main file.

Not very sure, but looks like there is a limit to the total files from a user.

Here is what I tried
I had the file with 2085mb. It failed twice.
I reduced the file size to 1961Mb. It still failed.
I tried posting on the April thread. It failed.

I deleted all my postings since Jan and waited for an hour or so. That worked. But then it did not show up when I checked after 30 mins or so. So just to be sure I posted once again and it worked too. Now I deleted that duplicate one.

The worst thing was it was physically uploading. So it takes 10/15 mins before it fails as I was doing from a dialup connection.

pradha, what are you here so early for? look at it this way man. it is the system telling you and goastros to take some time off.

in the mean time, where is Magic Brave? please do the next post so that i can contribute some as well.
 
Goastros File?

I was about to start scanning as my daily ritual :)

But i saw goastors, file is not uploaded..
I dont want his changes gone.. may be i will wait till evening
before taking pradha's version and start from there.

I did not have any problem yesterday while posting may be becoz
i deleted all my old attachments.
i think every body should try it..

I have actually tried deleting lot of old files from Feb/Mar thread but it is still not working.

Pradha, should we do the split now or are you saying smaller size file is not working either ?

Suny, I have scanned upto 02-089, so you can go ahead with 02-90 and post it.

It looks like there is a limit to the individual space now. It must be a new addition from the operations. Putting 2+2 together with last week Jaxen's message checking back, whether old files are getting cleaned up and this, here is what I think

Some one in operations have looked at some space usage stats and this is using certainly a lot more than a normal discussion forum will use. With file size going to 2Mb and 2/3 postings a day it may be a good size. I expected someone do this even before. I think they might have checked with Jaxen and I assume that might have triggered his message. It is just a guess.

You must be having a lot more files than I had. The limit may be way below what you have and was Ok as there was no qouta limit earlier. Even I deleted a few last week. But I got the error yesterday. I simply deleted every posting since Jan and that was as far back I could go. I tried the thread consolidated 07 and it said "This thread is closed" and that is where I stopped. It took a while but was Ok for me, but may not be same for you as you have a lot more messages than mine. That is because you never listened to patiencelessTX.

Scanned from 02190-02107 (jan and Feb 2002).

37 approvals in that range in last few days.

Latest Approval count is 2042

We need to synch up goastros scannings or need redo them again..

If goastros can not post in next 1 or 2 days, one of us will redo the scanning for that part.

next person can start from 02108

It took me only 1 or 2 minutes to post the file..
I have deleted the attachments to all my previous postings..
I am not sure whether that could be reason

rescanning

it looks like no one else is rescanning. i am going to start with 02-108 on an older file that works on my computer. the next person who is comfortable with copy and paste data can pick the portion of new data to include in the future post.

right now, i am upto 02-160. still not much activity from march 02 onward

rescanned from 02-108 till 02-175 (53511). 26 new april approvals found.
next person, please update the latest file with the new data.

April approval count should be 2068 now.

copy and paste

it may be easier for to rescan than copy and paste date from other sheets. The only restriction is we can not scan more than 1000 cases in given 24 hours..

yup.. I have always said that it is easier to rescan then copy & paste.

Now as per my problem, looks like since only pradha & i are affected then most likely they put on a quota system in past day or 2.

I have actually gone back and deleted many of my attachments & postings from Feb & mar & april ( almost all) , but still I can't post.
Maybe it is because I have been in it since start so I am still a lot above the quota.

I am kind of suprised that this new quota rule didn't caught you, patiencelesstx.

Now as per the ver 323, what do you all suggest. I can send just those sheets to suny ( if you can PM your e-mail address).
I also have some more new data for src 02-172.

regarding copying data

Guys,

I started to copy the sheets from patienceless files..
but it is very cumbersome. (to me. i guess).

I will try to scan twice every day. once from work and once from
home.. to move things faster..

goastros.. i sent you pm with my email.. but i guess now no need to send data to me..

If we have more volunteers.. it would be nice :)

you are right about copying being cumbersome. we all would prefer direct rescanning if it is possible. by the way, what kind of internet connection do you use at home? you might be able to do more than a 1000 if you can reset you ip address.

i feel little nervous copying, However I did copy your range (blindly used a modifed mv). I did verify the counts before though. You didn't have 02-140 and 02-172 some data ,so I just copied them to your sheet before copying.

Hope I have not messed up any other sheets. I have also scanned 02-140 and 176 -183 . I skipped 175 as I did not know how far you have gone in that.
