AIR TRAVEL
Implemented on January 23, 2007, ALL PERSONS traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean region are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.
It doesn't define "other valid travel document"
I am a canadian citizen living in California and have been told by cdn consulate, external affairs etc that i need my passport.
REcently some people on the board said they had travelled in december 07 without passport but they werent cdn citizens and may have been exempt.
I really need to know about returning from canada to usa as i may find alternative mode to getting there.
i should clarify that i am asking about air travel by plane. I know by land you dont need a passport but by air its a different matter i have been told.
The entry barrier to be a Canadian civil servant isn't much more than a pulse these days.
Any canadians out there who are us green card holders who are travelling to canada by air without passport? Can you do it on green card only?
FROM THE CPB WEBSITE-UPDATED INFO FEB 2008
"Air/Land and Sea - Lawful Permanent Residents (Green card holder's) do NOT need a passport
to enter the United States, however you may need a passport to enter another country.
Please contact the embassy of the foreign country you will be traveling to for their requirements."

I am also Canadian. Unless you want a hassel at the border, I would get a passport also(By Air) You stand a chance of a clueless IO demanding you have one or you go back. I am NOT saying that is right, but it's not worth the hassel for $80 Canadian!
I agree, but I personally believe any citizen of any country should have a passport.
