Traveling to home country with AS06 GC

I got my GC in March this year as a result of asylum process. The category on the GC shows: AS06 (Does that mean anything?)
I would like to travel outside the country but feared that there would be problem at the port of entry on my return.
My plan is to travel Asia and also back to my home country.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Most of the countries don't have a clue what this AS6 means. However China and India are countries that I know of, that have started to look closely at GCs and started questioning their "ex-patriots".. :D

Yup, these two countries (especially Commi China) shamefully claim they don't persecute anyone. :D What you have done in U.S. is tarnishing their good names in international community.

Chinese Embasy & China Customs know AS 6's meaning. That is Why I was refused to issue PASSPORT. I honestky showed them my G/C. They asked me to sign a statement that my application of political asylum is fake one, I refused to do so, so, they refused to give me new passport. I suggest AS6's guys should wait till US citizenship, then go back home to clean parents tombs.

Wow, thank you all for your great input. My country of citizenship is Indonesia and I've heard that the Indonesian Consul in the states has been denying passport renewals for people who filed for asylum.

I guess I'm stuck here for another four years then, till I get my US citizenship :(

This is expected as the Chinese Communist Party is the most brutal organziation in existence.

I travelled to my COP (China) with AC06 GC without any problem. However, I didn't apply for a new passport. Mine is not expired yet.

Please note that when you enter, the custom / inspection doesn't look at your GC. They only look at your passport. So the chance of they denying your entry is zero. You only show them GC when you leave China, but I don't see how they can prevent you from leaving at that time.

You are luck guy, or you are not in black name list. Chinese Embasy in USA knows better than China customs.

Once your passport is expired, when you want to extend into another 10 years ( starts from next year), what should you show to them? Your G/C with AS 6???

How does Chinese government know that you had applied for asylum? If you did not tell them they won't know. I am just conjecturing.

A simple way to get around this

To Apply a RP. And use it in place of GC in-n-out those countries.

When renew your Passport, make sure your copy of GC is blurrrrrrrrr enough to be sure no one in the hell would see what Category it be. :p

I personaly know someone did this, and worked.

Is this true we can use RP and Passport to go in and out of China? In other words we do not have to show China customs the PR with AS6? Anyone had any experience?

Regarding the passport renewal, I renewed mine last year and they did not ask anything. I simply showed them the I-485 receipt.

Did you wipe out I-485's "section: Asylee adjustment "? I showed them my G/C, the lady read it carefully and found out " AS 6". She took out a paper: it said: statement, as for my political asylum application is fake, just for green card, i will take all responsibilty....", I just need to sign my signature. If I did so, they will give me a new passport. But I refused, she threw out my old passport out hungerily and shut the window. it is my experience.

Comrade Pvlaca is special. His uncle is a leader of the Chinese Gestapo and has countless murders to his credit. So Pvlaca's experience is by no means representative. Just me a PM for more details if you are interested.

I wish you the best.

Betty:

If you do a search on this forum, you'll realize that after GC, many people (including me) have traveled back to their home country with passport and GC. TordFeasor, who is a lawyer himself, wrote a long piece on the difference between laws governing asylees and GC hoders.

There are some people who spread fears on this forum, but most of them seem to have never had real experience on this, but merely speak from speculation and hearsay.

My situation is also same. My passport expired 2 years ago. Now even though i have my Green card, i can't go and renew my passport for the same reason. In my case i have to sign an affidivit and notarize it, saying i have not applied for Asylum in this country.
Blurring the GC is ok, but giving them your origional passport and signing the affidivit, no no it's not worth taking that risk.
May be someone has a better suggestion?

I renewed my NP in June after receiving my GC in March.
And now I'm kinda regreting doing that. I wished I had found this forum sooner.
Anyway, after hearing so many bad NP renewal cases, I got insider info from the consulate that I was not to tell them I applied for asylum. If I did, they would automatically denied my NP renewal application.
Instead, I was to say that my F1 visa had expired and that I overstayed.
So I did, and I got my new NP.
And now I'm worried that renewing my NP will somehow get me into trouble when I travel abroad.

My aunt went to apply her chinese passport with her GC category AS6, without any problem. Well it just took longer than I did.
She have to ask people in China to help her to speed up the process for her.
Last year she went back to China, and came back without any problem.

I haven't traveled outside the country since renewing my NP.
Next year I am planning to travel back to my COP using my NP and GC.
Will keep you guys posted.

theres nothing to regret , you should renew your NP if you can renew it

The problem with visiting COP is not when reentering the US,the problem will be in your citizinship interview when asked about it.
