Hi everyone,

So just when I thought trouble was over on getting Oath letter..on my super clean traffic history..I got a red light violation(via camera, did not stop while taking right turn) ticket today my OD is 7/8.

Of course I'm going to declare it at Oath time...can it cause me trouble at Oath date (like postpone oath tll ticket is resolved? ). Anyone has experience with it?

Thanks a ton!

There's a slight chance an IO will make it an issue if the ticket isn't paid before oath, especially if this is one of those driver photo tickets which takes a picture of you as well.

Thanks Bob.

I've not yet recd the ticket on how much I'm supposed to pay. Can I still go to traffic school based on citation note I recd in mail?

I'm thinking to take traffic school, take that certificate to court\DMV? and pay it up and get court disposition before my OD.

Of all the times in 10+ yrs of my stay in US...this was the worst time for me to get the traffic ticket..go figure...

Thanks Bob.

I'm not sure you can go to traffic school before court date, but you can call DA's office to find out. It's relatively a minor traffic ticket so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

This is not considered a moving violation, as camera tickets are issued to the vehicle, not the driver. Something like this is an equivalent of a parking ticket. In other words, reporting this ticket on the back of your oath letter would be like reporting a parking ticket. You're worrying too much.

The OP is from CA where they take pictures of the driver as well.

I am not sure if it does use face recognition software though from the photo taken, I must say camera is really good. There's no chance of denying that person in picture is me :))

If you don't receive a ticket before oath, don't mention it. If you do, send a check payment ASAP and bring a copy of the check you mailed.

There's no requirement to settle a minor traffic ticket before the oath, especially if you want to contest the charge and/or have a court date after the oath date. A single minor traffic ticket would not delay your oath.

I think maybe you receive the ticket by mail after your OD in july,08

In 2007, i have same ticket (failure to stop in red light...) i receive the ticket by mail after 40 day's.

The most important thing is that camera tickets are not treated as traffic violations, but as civil liabilities. It's an equivalent of a parking ticket. Traffic violations normally go on a driver's DMV record, whereas camera tickets don't.

Again, the OP is from CA where camera tickets are considered criminal violations.

I stand corrected. However, I wonder how California gets away with considering camera tickets criminal violations, but outsourcing the entire camera process (including installation and processing) to private, non-law enforcement agency companies. Than again, there are private prisons. I guess anything is possible.

What about if the case is in IL and I paid online, so I only have a print that says it was paid. Should I even say anything at the oath?

you can do walk-in to the court house indicated on the citation, and pay the fine and request traffic school before you even receive the real ticket (people in the windows will be able to pull out the information based on the citation number),
and then do the traffic school online (they will give you the list),
that way you will be done before your oath day,
and will have something to show them that you paid the fine, and did the traffic school,
BTW, even if the ticket was issued by camera, the person who reviews those videos is trained officer, i believe, so it IS a moving violation
Thanks Bob.
